12th Organic Farmers’ Festival Opens Tomorrow

The 12th Negros Island Organic Farmers Festival (NIOFF) will open tomorrow, November 22 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds.

This year’s four-day celebration is hosted once again by the Province of Negros Occidental with the theme, “Go Organic for Health and Prosperity”.

The event will highlight various exhibits of organic products and by-products, as well as showcase sustainable innovations and technologies practiced by different farmer-producers and advocates.

Free 3-Day Seminar on Drug Reduction Set in Victorias

The Negros Occidental Drug Rehabilitation Foundation, Inc. (NODRFI) and the Negros Occidental Drug Rehabilitation Center (NODRC) and the City of Victorias in partnership with Colombo Plan and Dangerous Drug Board will hold a free 3-day live-in Seminar on Drug Reduction on November 21-23, 2017 at Gawahon Eco-Park in Victorias.

A team of training specialists on drug prevention control from the Dangerous Drugs Board will tackle a 7-module program on universal prevention curriculum on substance use in the span of three days.

Kanlaon Volcano on Alert Level 2

Kanlaon Volcano is now on Alert Level 2.

An increase in volcanic activities within the volcano’s immediate surroundings prompted the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) to raise its alert status to moderate level of unrest, yesterday morning.

“Alert Level 2 status now currently prevails over Kanlaon Volcano, which means that the volcano is undergoing a moderate level of unrest. There is probable intrusion of magma at depth which may or may not lead to a magmatic eruption,” a Phivolcs announcement said.

Hailstones Surprise La Carlota Residents

Barangay San Miguel, La Carlota City residents were surprised when hailstorms rained down in their community at about 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon.

Hailstones are small balls of ice that fall like rain from the sky.

In a DYWB Bombo Radyo Bacolod interview with Dr. Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian, head of the Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Management Program Division,confirmed the occurrence of the 8.5 millimeters rain and the hailstones in the barangay.
