5-day firearms ban starts today in Bacolod

The police in Bacolod City starts today the enforcement of a five-day firearms ban (February 15 to 19) as part of the security efforts during the 13th BacoLaodiat Festival.

Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, public information officer of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said the move aims to ensure that there would be no firearm-related incidents in the course of the festival.

The four-day festival, Bacolod’s celebration of the Chinese New Year, will be held on February 15 to 18.

Bacolaodiat Fest goes HFCS-free

The 13th Bacolaodiat Festival will not be using products containing high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) during the duration of the festival on February 15 to 18.

There will be no Coca-Cola and Pepsi products during the festival.

The festival organizers will only be accommodating San Mig Cola which uses 100% Philippine sugar.

This is in support of the sugar industry, city officials, and the campaign against HFCS.*


Jose Mari Chan: Adopted, Honorary Mayor of Bacolod on Chinese New Year

One of the highlights of the 13th Bacolaodiat Festival on February 15-18, is the adoption of the famous veteran singer, Jose Mari Chan as adopted son of Bacolod, by virtue of SP Resolution authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito as requested by the Bacolaodiat Inc. through Jennifer Gochangco-Ongpin, chair of Bacolaodiat Inc. in cooperation with the Tsinoy community of Bacolod City, at the same time honorary mayor during the Chinese New Year celebration as per Executive Order No. 6 signed by Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

Bacolaodiat Singing Competition Now Open for Applicants

Bacolaodiat Festival organizers are inviting all interested singers from Chinese and non-Chinese schools to join the Bacolaodiat Singing Master “A Chinese Language Singing Contest” set February 18, Sunday, at 2 p.m.

Singers from Chinese schools must be enrolled students from Grade 1 to 6 and are allowed to send two participants each Geade. They are to submit a copy of the minus-one, together with the lyrics in both Chinese Characters and Pinyin, to the Bacolaodiat Office on or before February 10 for compilation.
