Kabankalan’s Southland College Wins Battle of the Brains 2017
Jamaica Cortez Corpus and Sharette Reyes of Southland College in Kabankalan City bested four other teams that competed in the Grand Finals of EDC’s Battle of the Brains 2017 in Dumaguete City recently.

The two senior students along with their coach, Jackie Lou Besana bagged the P30,000 grand prize along with the bragging rights of being the brainiest students in science and energy issues.
Coming in close second is the team from Don Vicente Gustilo Memorial High School of Cadiz City while third place went to Negros Oriental High School in Dumaguete City.
Five teams complete the grand finalists but Bais City High School and Bago City National High School were eliminated after the first round.
Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo graced the event and lauded the organizers for continuing to raise awareness on environment issues and climate change.
ABS CBN talent and show host, Robi Domingo, brought the house down and advocated for cleaner energy and “no to coal” while giving away shirts to those who attended the event.
Domingo whose roots hail from Bacolod City, spoke against the pollution caused by coal plants and encouraged the public to push their power cooperatives to only purchase power from renewable energy firms that abound in Negros Island.
He also encouraged more events similar to the Battle of the Brains as a venue to challenge the youth to protect the environment and push for clean and green energy.*
