Negros Occ. Holds Sugar Summit Today
Negros Occidental and other officials particularly from the sugar industry, led by Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr., with former Gov. Lito Coscolluela are expected to attend the sugar summit today at the Sugarland Hotel, Bacolod City.
The summit will tackle issues concerning the present situation of sugar industry. Although fifty percent of sugar supply in the whole country comes from Negros Occidental known as sugar bowl of the country, however, if unabated, sugar in Negros might flap.
At the presscon yesterday Gov. Marañon said, there are lots of problems that the sugar industry is presently facing. The lack of labor force, drop of price of sugar in the world market, sugar sweetener users have also dropped, and other concerns.
They will also decide if it is necessary to diversify aside from sugar production.*(EBColmo)
