‘Anti-smoking Team Doesn’t Collect Fine’
The public is being informed that considering the Bacolod Anti-Smoking Task Force Action Team has already started apprehending violators of the city’s anti-smoking campaign, but they are not authorized to collect fines.
“Only the City Treasurer Cashiers located at the old city hall, NGC, City Health compound, BCPO and BTAO are authorized to collect the fines, and no one else,” BASTF Co-chair and Coun. Caesar Distrito stressed out.
Councilor Distrito said that members of the action team were issued proper identification cards with uniforms indicating the name of the team. Any person claiming to be a taskforce member without proper identification should not be entertained by the public.
He added that during the orientation and briefing to members of the action team they were instructed repeatedly not to collect fines from violators but rather refer them to the official collectors of the City Government located in the City Health Office, Bacolod City Police Office, Old City Hall and the Bacolod City Government Center.
“Individuals or establishment owners who were apprehended should not give money to any member of the taskforce action team and then check if the apprehending officer has the proper ID, uniform and citation ticket duly issued by the taskforce because there might be some who will pretend to be members of the taskforce,” Distrito emphasized.
“Also, if you are suspecting that he/she is pretending to be a member of the action team and wants to collect the fine directly, ask for the name, the designation and call my office immediately for verification,” He added.
Earlier, Atty. Edward Joseph Cuansing and Councilor Caesar Distrito, Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the taskforce conducted a briefing to the action team members with regard to the guidelines in apprehending violators.*(Benedick J. Ledesma)
