Water Watch Takes Up Bulk Water Supply Issue on Sept. 7

The Bacolod Water Consumers Watch, Inc. (BWCWI or Bacolod Water Watch) will assemble the 61 Barangays of Bacolod for updates on the status of the Bulk Water Supply Contract of the Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) this coming September 7, 2017, 9:00 A.M., at the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) Session Hall of the Bacolod City Government Center.

The water consumers group, chaired by Councilor Wilson Gamboa, Jr., had invited Atty. Juliana Carbon, BACIWA General Manager and Mr. Ryan Yapkianwee, Chief Operating Officer of the Bacolod Bulk Water Supply, Inc., as resource speakers for said meeting.

Expected to attend are representatives from the 61 Barangays of Bacolod City, among them the Barangay Captains and their respective Barangay Chairpersons of the Committee on Environment; likewise invited are various water consumer stakeholders and concerned non-government organizations (NGOs).

Topics for discussion include the status of the Bulk Water Supply Contract of BACIWA, the water supply shortage in Bacolod City and concerns regarding the water refilling stations.

According to Gamboa, Bacolod Water Watch, as a consumer “watchdog”, will continue to seek and ensure water sufficiency and security for Bacolod City and to ensure consumer protection against water rate increases, unreasonable fees and impositions of excessive, exorbitant charges and imposition of arbitrary and capricious policies that would violate consumer rights.*
