Bacolod Ready to Enforce Smoking Ban with 2-Pronged Approach

Bacolod City Councilor Caesar Distrito said the city is implementing the Smoking Ban with two approaches to make it more effective.

Distrito said City Mayor Bing Leonardia had already issued an Executive Order convening the Bacolod Anti Smoking Taskforce.

The Taskforce is chaired by the Secretary to the Mayor Atty. Ed Cuansing representing the City Mayor, and co chaired by Coun. Caesar Distrito representing VM Elcid Familiaran.

DILG SERVES DISMISSAL ORDER TO 9 BACOLOD EXECS

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), last Tuesday served the dismissal order of the Ombudsman to nine city officials and employees of Bacolod City.

This was confirmed by Atty. Anthony Nuyda, concurrent DILG director for Western Visayas and Negros Island Region after receiving a letter from local government Undersecretary Austere Panadero.

The Office of the Ombudsman found Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia along with nine current and former city officials who have been ordered dismissed from the service after they were deemed guilty of grave misconduct and gross neglect of duty for the questionable procurement of P50 million in furnitures and fixtures for the local government center between 2008 and 2010, during Leonardia’s earlier term as city executive.

Nylon Screens Installed at BCGC Fountain to Protect Koi  

Mayor Evelio Leonardia recently ordered the installation of nylon screens around the Fountain Area at the Bacolod City Government Center to protect the Japanese koi fingerlings and prevent them from swimming out of the infinity lagoon.

Businessman James Chua donated 1,000 Japanese koi to the city government, which were released into the Fountain Area on July 15.

Building Administrator Engr. Amy Tentia said the 1-foot-tall nylon screens cover the circumference of the fountain area.

More Smokers Nabbed

More violators were apprehended by operatives of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) as they implement Executive Order 22 issued by City Mayor Evelio Leonardia in consonance with Executive Order 26 of President Rodrigo Duterte banning smoking in public places.

Supt. Luisito Acebuche, head of BTAO, more violators were apprehended, many of them smoing passengers of public utility jeepney (PUJs).
