NIR BUDGET 2017 ON HOLD DUE TO FEDERALISM - ALBEE

The proposed P42 billion proposed budget for the newly- created Negros Island

REP. ALBEE BENITEZ

Region has been put on hold amid talks of a shift to federalism, Negros Occidental Rep. Alfredo Benitez (3rd district) said.

“My understanding is that President Duterte wants to hold it in abeyance”, Benitez said.

This is despite intense lobbying by top Negros island officials for the inclusion of the budget in the proposed 2017 national budget.

However, Benitez said that “all is not lost yet.”

He said that there is still a budget allocated for each congressional district of NIR.

The lobby for regular budgets for infrastructure projects and programs for every congressional district is still there, he pointed out.
