2 Brothers Killed, Their Pa Hurt in ‘Cycle vs. Truck Collision
Brothers Merjun and Romer Catedral Lopez died while their father Elmer and Orlan Oyos got hurt in a collision between their motorcycle and a Canter cargo truck late Thursday afternoon in Barangay Robles in La Castellana..
Chief Inspector Irma Teoxon, La Castellana PNP chief identified the victims Merjun, 27 and his younger brother Romer, 18, both laborers of Barangay Talaptap in La Castellana.
They sustained head and body injuries and were declared dead on arrival at La Castellana Rural Health Unit by Dr, Nenita Sol-Rodriquez.
Injured were their father Elmer Ellera Lopez, 42 and Orlan Oyos Trio, 20, single, laborer of Barangay Camandag, also of the town.
The Canter truck driver was Joemarie Suarez Valenzuela, 41 of Barangay Malingin, Bacolod City.
The truck was loaded with palay and was on its way to the town proper when the collision occured.
Valenzuela surrendered to La Castellana PNP.
Police investigation disclosed that the single motorcycle driven by Elmer had his sons and Trio as passengers, while the cargo truck was also negotiating a wet road in front of Buena Park Subdivision.
The motorcycle reportedly overtook the truck but when the motorcycle was already in front of the truck, a stray dog crossed the road causing the motorcycle to skid on the wet portion of the road.*(Cyrus M. Garde)
