SP to Cops, DSWD: ‘Curtail Rugby Street Kids’
Considering the use of rugby by street children, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod through the resolution of Councilor Caesar Distrito, is reiterating its call ON the police and the City’s Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through the Office of the City Mayor, to urgently act and create measures in curtailing it.
Actually, in May 2017 the SP has requested BCPO and DSWD to act on the rampant use of rugby and rescue rugby boys and girls who continuously roam around the streets of the City. The City Government has to address and get rid of areas being flocked by numerous street children who do not only ask for alms from other people but also blatantly use rugby.
Since the City has been cited for several times as a child-friendly City, and to protect such distinction, the City Government has to address and get rid of areas flocked by the street children. They are usually found along downtown area, Bacolod Public Plaza going to the reclamation (SM area), Lacson Street near Capitol Lagoon (4th going to 11th streets) and La Salle Avenue including along BS Aquino Drive from Doctor’s Hospital to Redemptorist Church, in which they freely move around, disturbing and threatening passersby.
Distrito emphasized that these street children should be immediately rescued by our concerned agencies, in order to take them away from the consequences that they may face if they continue to stay on the streets and use rugby.
Distrito also said, this issue is a small one compared to other issues faced by the City but it has a long term effect with a big impact, since children at young age are being exposed to illegal and immoral acts that may later make them in conflict with the law.
Therefore the SP has approved Distrito’s Resolution to request DSWD and BCPO through the City Mayor’s Office to immediately address this issue to save the children and support them in having a meaningful and worthwhile future.*(Edith B. Colmo)
