1 of 3 Fishermen Mistaken as NPAs Got Killed in DSB
A resident of Barangay Bagong Silang, Don Salvador Benedicto town in Negros Occidental was reportedly shot dead by an alleged Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (now KAPATIRAN) member in a river at Sitio Tangkongan and Sitio Bayabasan in the barangay around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. He was with two other companions.
The victim was reportedly identified as Robert Selendron, of legal age, according to his younger brother Reynold. Another companion, their uncle identified as Mario Dulman also escaped and unhurt.
The victims were mistaken as members of New People’s Army (NPA) trying to cross the Bago River in Barangay Bagong Silang.
The two surviving residents denied they are NPAs and told police authorities that they were in the river to catch fish.
The suspects were identified later under the command of a certain “Alias Andot” of the First Negros District, Negros RPA-ABB.
Te’s report first disclosed that there are three casualties in the incident but this was denied by the two other surviving victims.
Barangay Bagong Silay is under Village Chief Vicente “Oti” Bacordo whose son, Sangguniang Bayan member Eden Bacordo of Don Salvador Benedicto was gunned down by alleged RPA-ABB members in Barangay Lopez Jaena, Murcia along with his bodyguard and live-in partner last month.*(Cyrus M. Garde)
