Japanese Master Conducts Jukkendo-Judo Seminar in Negros
Jukkendo founder Nori Bunasawa Sensei conducted the 1st Philippine Jukkendo-Judo Seminar - Bacolod Leg 2017 on October 13 at the Tribu Hangaway Philippines (THP) Gym, Galo St., Bacolod City.
The 68-year old Ninth Dan Red Bunasawa Sensei is a White Belt Kodokan (2016) and a 10th Dan Jujitsu.
Twelve aikidokas, grapplers, and arnisadors from 4 organizations attended the seminar, which was organized by Founder/Master of the Conceptual Arnis System and the Conceptual Martial Arts Society (CMAS), Inc., James Sy in cooperation with Roy R. Flores Sensei, 6th Degree Black Belt Tapondo Aikido, Founder of Tribu Hangaway Philippines (THP), in behalf of Kirk Gooding, who was in Cebu facilitating the 1st Philippine Jukkendo-Judo Seminar - Cebu Leg last October. 11, 2017 at the Citi Gym, Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel and Casino with the help of eskrimador Celestino “Tinni” Macachor of the Eskrima De Campo JDC-IO system, the renowned Co-Author of the book Eskrima Beyond the Myth (2007) with Dr. Ned R. Nepangue.
Bunasawa Sensei was visiting Kirk Gooding, his first and long time student whom he promoted to 1st Dan Black Belt in Jukkendo at the conclusion of the Cebu seminar. Gooding, an accomplished boxer, has also learned Eskrima De Campo JDC-IO system from Celestino Macachor and Baraw Sugbu from Grandmaster Eduardo Ceniza.
Bunasawa Sensei taught one arm shoulder throw with shiho nage pin and arm bar follow ups, inside reap throw with forward roll and shiho nage pin, inside reaping throw against a mawashi geri and heel hook and Achilles tendon foot lock follow ups, as well some other techniques.
The training was the first seminar in Negros and the Western Visayas (Region 6) and the second in the Philippines to officially introduce the new comprehensive system of Jukkendo based on Kodokan Founder Jigoro Kano Sensei’s Goshinjutsu Judo (Self-Defense Art, Way of Gentleness) and “Conde Koma” Mitsuyo Maeda’s pro-fighting MMA style of Judo /Jujitsu. Bunasawa Sensei, who has a background in Boxing, Karate, and Kempo, blended both grappling (nage-waza and katame-waza) (70%) with atemi-waza (body-striking techniques) (30%) to put together JUKKENDO.
Bunasawa Sensei, the Head Instructor of Bunasawa-kai, is a former Japanese Judo champion and several times international Judo champion. He was a US World Team coach (1975) and Japanese World (1969)/Olympic team member. He had studied under Yoshimi Osawa, 10th Dan Kodokan Judo, the only remaining living judan in Judo; Masahiko Kimura 7th Dan, All Japan Judo champion and Pro-Judo/Jujitsu fighter known for having defeated Helio Gracie by use of the “Kimura” lock; Kenji Tomiki, Founder of Tomiki Aikido; and Hiroshi Jono, Founder of Goshindo.
Bunasawa Sensei is the Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of the Judo/Jiu-Jitsu/Pro-Fighting Journal and the author of numerous books including the story of Mitsuyo Maeda, The Toughest Man Who Ever Lived.
