Basecom Stops Silver Dragon in Fil-Sino Quarterfinals
Basecom stopped Silver Dragon Transport, 76-74, while top seed Royal Star Trading defeated JSY Transport, 58-50, in the quarterfinals of the 2nd Conference Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade Inc. Inter-Color basketball tournament at Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
Silver Dragon Transport takes the opening quarter, 23-12. But Basecom roared back in the 2nd quarter to take a 45-33 advantage at the break.
Silver Dragon cut the deficit anew at 62-57 behind the balance offense led by Bobil Alagaban 7 points.
Rey Pandoro, Alagaban and Coo conspired to continue with their momentum, but Basecom had the answer and hold on to the lead until the dying seconds when Silver Dragon missed on their attempt as Basecom advances to the semifinals.
Robbie Jalandoon paced Basecom with 16 points; Efrain Valencia added 15; Dy shot 14; Ramon Khey dropped 9 and Dandan Ong with 8.
Bobil Alagaban had a game-high 19 points; Coo added 17; Rey Pandoro 15; Mark Velez and Jan Jan Lopue with 8 points apiece.
In the nightcap Royal Star Trading fell behind in the 1st quarter, 16-10 as Dirk Dongon and Dr. Emil Guanzon fired 5 points apiece.
Royal Star Trading Edward Uy and Brix Arrobang dropped 8 points each to cut the deficit as JSY Transport led at the half, 32-29. Glin Ortaliz and Kendrick Deloria made 6 apiece for JSY Transport.
A low scoring 3rd quarter for both teams slightly favored Royal Star Trading as JSY Transport continue to remain on top going to the 4th quarter, 43-42.
In the payoff period the Royal Star Trading height and heft advantage proved to be unstoppable for JSY Transport as Arnol Laureño and Livingstone Ang combined for 9 points, while JSY Transport can only score 7 points in the quarter.
Royal Star also advanced to the semis and will have a twice to beat advantage.
Brix Arrobang led Royal Star Trading with 14; Arnol Laureño and Edward Uy delivered 12 apiece; DK Equipaje shot 6 and Livingstone Ang with 8.
Shinley Uy, Dirk Dongon and Dr. Emil Guanzon finished with 10 points each for them; Ortaliz produced 8 and Deloria with 6 points.
Meanwhile, Carlo Chu scored 32 points to lifts AACI Trading against Organic Solutions,74-70 and Sweet Crystals Sugar defeated JSY Countertrade 69-61 last Monday also in the quarterfinals.
Chu also fired 16 points to jumpstart the AACI Trading campaign with RJ Iligan unloading 8 points for, 29-18 opening quarter advantage.
AACI Trading kept the lead by halftime 42-29.
Organic Solutions started its move in the 3rd quarter as they cut the deficit to 57-50 behind Julius Teruel 6 points and Dante Ma had 5 points.
Organic Solutions took the lead early in the 4th quarter behind Ronal Despi and Ritchie Militante, but Jan Jan Young triple gave the lead back to AACI Trading, 69-68. Chu followed it up with 2 free throws and Jun Jun Luciano free throw gave AACI Trading some breathing room.
After Lito Dumdum made a jumper, Chu responded with 2 points for the final point.
Backstopping Chu were Ilagan 14 points; Bren Tajonera 8; Young produced 6; while Luciano and Arvin Chua made 5 points apiece
Organic Solutions was spearheaded by Ma 17; Teruel added 14; Militante drilled 12 pts., Despi with 11 points and Dumdum had 8 points.,
In the Curtain Raiser Sweet Crystals Sugar, 38-27 at the break as Marc Lo scored 9 points; Jasper Geolingo and Cesar Tan shot 8 points apiece.
Alvin Dionela scored 9 points for JSY Countertrade.
JSY Countertrade outscored Sweet Crystals Sugar in the 2nd half but it was not enough to overhaul the lead.
Lo topscored for Sweet Crystals Sugar with 18 points; Deles added 14; Tan made 11; Alvan Rodriguez with 8 points.
Dionela finished with 15 points; Rinen Miag-ao shot 14; Buddy Eufre dropped 12; Kako Lacson with 9 points.
Playing as of press time Top Seed Royal Star Trading will be armed with a twice to beat advantage against no.4 AACI Trading while Sweet Crystals Sugar and Basecom will meet for a knockout match where winners will advance to the finals.* (Cyrus M. Garde)
