2 NONESCOST teachers die in road collision

Two college teachers of Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology (NONESCOST) in Barangay Old Sagay, Sagay City were killed and eight injured in a collision of motorcycle and tricycle along the national road of Villa Angela, Barangay Poblacion 2, Sagay City around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police Chief Inspector Robert Mansueto, Sagay police chief identified the victims as Robert John Camuta Gella, 25, of Purok Jison, Barangay Poblacion, Sagay and his backrider Kristine Gepullano Cedenio, 29, of Purok School Side, Barangay 2, Poblacion, Sagay.

Gella died on the spot while Cedenio died in a hospital.

Both were instructors at the Criminology Department of NONESCOST.

Injured were passengers of the tricycle driven by Reynaldo Arellano, 53, of Barangay Taba-ao, Sagay; his passengers were identified as Ryan Escanillan Andales, 11, and sister Shiantal Mae, 6; their mother Gina Escanillan Andales, 38, all of Purok Bitoon, Barangay Old Sagay.

Florence Mae Conde of Barangay Cervantes, Escalante City; Evey John Lebister Intes, 18; Joy Ann Fernandez Baquillar, 19, of Barangay San Isidro, Toboso and Roel Ehok Minque, 23, of Barangay Buenavista, Escalante, all NONESCOST students.

They were brought to a Bacolod City hospital for medical treatment.

It was reported that Gella with Cedenio as backrider and other friends from the school were racing each other towards the city proper so he overtook a tricycle, but failed to beat to his lane causing the collision with a tricycle running opposite direction with passengers.*(Cyrus M. Garde)
