SP conducts hearing on Bacolod’s of P2.25-B budget

The Committee on Appropriations and Finance of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) has conducted the hearing for the 2018 Annual Budget of Bacolod City in the amount of P2.25 Billion and called for city departments to present and defend their budget.

Councilor Caesar Z. Distrito, Chairperson of the Committee on Appropriations and Finance said that they have scheduled three hearings and invited all city departments and other government agencies so that the committee will be able to justify their budgets in the deliberation of the city council.

“The department heads are required to attend the hearing to defend their budget and also to explain and appeal if there are other important needs left out. An absent department head will automatically not get their appropriation approved,” Councilor Distrito said.

“The budget will prioritize health services, solid waste management, social welfare services, public safety which includes peace and order, anti-drug campaign and traffic management, economic development and infrastructure, tourism and education particularly the Bacolod City College,” Distrito added.

The hearing also discussed the complaints of department heads of unfunded unfilled positions, the sources of funds and the priorities of the city budget.

According to the City Budget Officer, vacant positions were not being funded since the budget to be allocated for them will be used for the other priority projects of the administration.

Also discussed during the hearing are the request of some departments for additional job order personnel, office supplies, internet and telephone connectivity and motor vehicles which Councilor Distrito said that he will do his best to cater the appeals and requests especially those who are really important.
