Hailstones Surprise La Carlota Residents
Barangay San Miguel, La Carlota City residents were surprised when hailstorms rained down in their community at about 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon.
Hailstones are small balls of ice that fall like rain from the sky.
In a DYWB Bombo Radyo Bacolod interview with Dr. Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian, head of the Negros Occidental Provincial Disaster Management Program Division, confirmed the occurrence of the 8.5 millimeters rain and the hailstones in the barangay.
Caelian explained during the Bombo interview, that hailstones occur when during a warm temperature a thunderstorm suddenly happens.
A thunderstorm is a transient storm of lightning and thunder, usually with rain and gusty winds, sometimes with hail, produced by cumulonimbus clouds.
He said hailstones have no negative effects on plants and animals.*(Arman P. Toga)
