Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. and Bacolod City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia are reportedly attending the bidding for Palarong Pambansa 2013 on October 8 in central office of the Department of Education in Pasig City.

Their presence will definitely fortify the province’s chances of winning the hosting against other bidders. Visayas Region is now hosting the annual grassroots sports conclave under the DepEd and the provinces in Central, Western and Eastern Visayas are lobbying for the hosting of the event. So far, Negros Occidental and Bacolod City’s rival is Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental. Last week, evaluators from the central office of the Department of Education (DepEd) visited the province and disclosed that we have enough billeting centers for the 17 regions and also the playing venues are qualified in the standards for 16 sports disciplines.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Central Office in Manila will send eight inspectors to Negros Occidental to inspect and evaluate the preparation of the province’s bids for 2013 Palarong Pambansa.

The inspectors from DepEd Central office are expected to arrive last week of September.

For hosting already four Palarong Pambansa in the past- two at the venue in Panaad Park and Sports Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan during 1998 and 2000 Centennial Palaro- there is no reason it will not win the bidding, Provincial Capitol sources disclosed. Two other Palarong Pambansa were hosted by the province in 1974 and 1979 at Paglaum Sports Complex.

If we are to understand, Negros Occidental hosting of 2013 Palarong Pambansa is already in the bag with the enthusiasm shown by Department of Education (DepEd) officials in yesterday’s evaluation at the Pavillon Hotel at BREDCO, Bacolod City.

DepEd Regional Director Mildred Garay rushed to the venue after arriving from Manila to give her assessment on the new development that Negros Occidental hosting is already assured. "If the bidding will be held in August, we are already prepared much well if it is held in September," she said.
