Sugar High: Pool Entertainment
With the sweltering heat of summer, it was a pleasure to spend the day beside
the pool. The Manila groupie of Baronessa Eva and Citoy Lopez came to visit
Sagay’s Central Lopez. Of course, the guests immediately took to the cooling
waters of the large pool in the Manager’s Compound of the sugar central. There
was cool as a cucumber beauty Frannie and her hubby, iconic rocker RJ Jacinto,
New Yorkers Reggie and Stephen Young with graceful ballroom dancer blonde Pamela
Dutton, Lisa de Castro with Nona Sarangaya and her Columbian hubby.

Feature: Italia Goes Art
The Onib Olmedo exhibit tour of the Philippines marking his 75th birthday
began in our very own Bacolod’s Italia restaurant. With his glamorous widow
Bettina and daughter Giselle Araneta in attendance, Italia’s beautiful couple
owner Charles and Mymy de Luzurriaga made sure that the A-list of local art
connoisseurs made it to this important event.

Sugar High: Cebu Whirl
If you don’t see me socializing nowadays, that’s because I’m dieting from all
the fabulous food from a recent trip to Cebu Island that had me perched high on
top of the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel overlooking the Queen City of the Philippines.

Sugarhigh: So Proud to be a Conlu
From the Benedicto’s, Montelibano’s, Cuenca’s, Lacson’s and Locsin’s to the
de la Rama’s—all bear a relation to the Conlu family of Molo. The 1st Conlu
Reunion took place in Iloilo last month at the Malacañang-style Punta Villa
Hotel and Resort.
The grand Crown Ballroom was extended three times to accommodate the spill-out crowd of more than two thousand. What was great about this reunion, was that it was free entrance, free luncheon-merienda-dinner to all Conlu relatives. Making sure that the whole family ate well was Engineer Alfonso Conlu Supetran, President of ACS Corporation, makers of Unique Toothpaste, Starwax Floorwax and Pride Detergents among others. His generosity exceeded anyone’s expectations by bringing 300 huge bags of his corporations’ goodies for giveaways to the first families that arrived.

Feature: Not So Grand Lacson Reunion
Considering the social standing of the Lacson family name, I was quiet
disappointed with the 2nd Lacson Reunion. It didn’t bear the “Grand” adjective
it had for the 1st Lacson Grand Reunion. There was nothing to celebrate about…

ELG with the famous Rose Lacson
What should have been a clarion call to get together and tie the family bonds
led to disarray and disunity. Each branch tried to outdo the others, there was
no sense of grandeur that has made the Lacson name stand out from the rest—even
being called the Kennedys of the Philippines sounded terribly out of place. The
only thing that came to my mind was the bickering of petty complaints why this
branch was called royale and why that branch was designated as pure blood.
Hello! Must you take all that crap seriously?!!!
Sugar High: From Dresden to Katmandhu
Due to the changed email address of Negros Daily Bulletin, my secretary sent my
photos to its old address, the reason why my column was not complete last week.
In yesterday’s super fun birthday party of our beloved President Sir Pert Toga,
the problem was resolved and today we are reprinting my column complete with the
photos that you missed last week. Enjoy!

Feature: From Dresden to Katmandhu
You must have thought that Ambassador Ed had already retired last year. Well,
I was so busy flying around Europe that I couldn’t even find time to hang my hat
and write an article. There was just enough time to attend the premiere of the
film "PUREZA" for a personal appearance and then off we went to Katmandhu, yes
that quiet unknown (to some aspiring sports columnist… hey, gurl, you should be
an editor sometime!) mecca of hippiedom.
Events: Play Studio Opens in SM Bacolod
Play Studio, Bacolod’s first and premiere photography studio for kids and families, opened its second branch at the East Bridgeway of SM City Bacolod last November 11, 2011. For owners Margot Lopez, Gretchen Varela, Katrina Varela, Bianca Limjap and Gia Garcia-Dupont, it was a special day filled with thanksgiving as they opened a second store in Bacolod City after establishing Play Studio 5 years ago.
The grand opening ceremonies began with a prayer and thanksgiving, followed by the ribbon cutting by Councilor Carlo Lopez. SM Mall Manager George Jardiolin, Assistant Mall Manager Julia Javellana and Tenant Relations Officer Nicelle Vistar attended the opening as well as guests Celing Lopez, Melinda Garcia, Ed and Nora Varela, Jas Valderama and Tisoy and Pop Henares.
Events: The Video Documentary PUREZA: Preparation or Propaganda? (3)
This third piece took some time because one library of documents was handed to me by former Councilor Wilson Gamboa, Jr., valuable documents which needed to see print as a “kabilin-bilinan sang napatay”, former SRA Administrator, Atty. Wilson Gamboa, Sr. If J. Abello’s PUREZA is a contribution to History, wow, in my possession now are legal documents of the late SRA Administrator who was lambasted by 56 sugar industry leaders Last 1996 printed in local and national papers for one week. They alleged Gamboa’s pretensions as a “modern messiah”. How I wish Mr.
Italian Ambassador Vows Tourism Support
When Italian Ambassador Luca Fornari and his charming wife Silvana came to Negros Island with organic food advocate Mara Loinaz, we had a chance to receive him for dinner to meet with our RANI (Resort Association of Negros Island) officers led by Pres. Bomber Zayco, Sec/Treasurer Raymund Javellana and Tourism Ambassador Ed Garcia.
