Murcia Farmers Seek Help from KASANAG Head

The leader of farmers belonging to Hacienda Ilimnan Farm Workers Association who are camping outside the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol compound in Bacolod City, yesterday said they are optimistic President Rodrigo Duterte will help them in their fight to get back their farms in Murcia which “were taken by the provincial government” from them.

‘Negros First Ranch Land Not Excluded from CARP’

The Department of Agrarian (DAR) dismissed the application for exclusion filed by the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental for the landholdings which it purchased and utilized for the establishment of the Negros First Ranch.

The provincial government filed the application for exclusion from the coverage of the Comprehensive Agarian Reform Program (CARP) involving three parcels of land with an aggregate area of 159.4646 hectares located in Barangays Sta. Rosa and Canlandog, Murcia town Negros Occidental.

Pa Hacked Dead

A father was hacked dead by two suspects looking for the victim’s son in Purok Halandumon, Barangay Canlandog, Murcia town, Negros Occidental around 10:00 p.m. Sunday, police belated report disclosed.

Murcia PNP identified the victim as Hernane Medel Suricho, 52, widow, of Purok Halandumon, Barangay Canlandog, Murcia. While the suspects were identified as Raul Costan Suricho, 27, married and Dennis Antonio Calapan, 38, married, residents of Hacienda Bahay, Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia.

Reaching Out to Informal Settler Families in Metro 3rd

Focusing on the other “H” in his Metro 3RD Asenso–IHELP (infrastructure-health & housing-education & environment-livelihood-policy) Program, Congressman Alfredo Benitez initiated an inventory of informal settler families (ISF) and a review of the various housing programs of local government units in the Third District.

Marie June Pavillar Castro, women’s rights advocate, civic leader and former Silay City councilor who was tasked as District Coordinator for Housing Concerns DCHC), said the initial inventory recorded close to 50,000 informal settler families in Victorias, EB Magalona, Silay, Talisay and Murcia. As she works closely with the LGUs to assist fast-tracking their housing programs and other related concerns, the listing and mapping of ISFs continue to generate an accurate data-baseline for appropriate interventions and provide relevant inputs to policy initiatives to address the housing backlog and other issues.

NOCHP Enrollment in 3rd District Intensifies

The Third District of Negros Occidental continues to intensify its campaign to reach more families to enroll in the Negros Occidental Comprehensive Health Program (NOCHP) to avail of free medical services in times of need.

Congressman Alfredo Benitez continues to mobilize his District Office and satellite offices in cities of Victorias, Silay , Talisay and municipalities of Murcia and EB Magalona to reach far-flung upland and coastal communities, educating families of the benefits of the program.
