‘Memorialize Independence Day’, Bacoleños Urged

"Memorialize Independence Day", thus Bacolod Vice Mayor Greg G. Gasataya said as he urged all Bacoleños "to celebrate with pride" the 116th years of liberation that our forefathers fought with dignity and valor against our country’s aggressors.

This year’s theme is "Pagsunod sa Yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino, Tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenteng Pagbabago". In lieu of this celebration, which started May 28 to June 12, all government offices, schools, barangays, business establishments, non-government and private and people’s organizations have been required to display the Philippine flag in their respective premises to raise public awareness on the importance of the commemoration, Gasataya said, adding that the city administration has readied P1 million budget for the occasion.

Invited honorary guests like senators Cynthia Villar and Allan Peter Cayetano to grace the occasion, however, have not uet confirmed their arrival.

Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr. is this year’s over-all chairperson.

Program includes a parade with various floats to be participated by government agencies headed by city public officials, schools in public and private, barangay officials, veterans and the senior citizens, private and non-government organizations, business groups, civic organizations, among others. The parade will start at 1 p.m. from the Provincial Capitol Lagoon going to the Public Plaza where a Wreath-Laying Ceremony, on June 12, at 6:30 a.m will also be held.

All street lamp posts from the boundary of Talisay will be hanged with flags and around Bacolod City and the Public Plaza with 150 flags.*
