More Athletes Outside Negros Joining Panaad Sportsfest

More athletes coming from outside Negros Occidental have confirmed entries in various events of the 2015 Panaad sa Negros Sportsfest which is set to unfold on April 12 to 18.

This was disclosed by Angel “Nonong” Verdeflor, Provincial Sports Coordinator and Executive Assistant to Gov. Alfredo Maranon Jr., saying that several runners and boxers from Bayawan in Negros Oriental, Guimaras and Panay provinces have already communicated with the Provincial Sports Office for their participation.

Among the featured events are athletics, road races, boxing, chess and taekwondo, among others.

The athletics events will be staged on April 14 to 16 with the under 13 (boys and girls) and the under 17 (boys and girls) competing for the 200 meters, 4X100 meter relay, 800 meters, 4X400 meter relay, 100/110 meter hurdles and discus throw.

Meanwhile, for road races, the Murcia to Pana- ad Run Open category will dust off on April 12 as the 3K Run and Open 5K will be on April 15.

Verdeflor said that one of the highlight events in this Panaad Sportsfest is the 43.1 kilometers Team Relay from La Carlota to Panaad Team Relay on April 18.

This will feature the Under 19, Open, and Executives (aged 25 years old and above) categories. The team composition is four (4) females and six (6) males as regular members with one male and a female as alternates.

This long distance running event will start at La Carlota City Hall and finishes at Panaad Stadium. The following sequences of runners include: (1) La Carlota City to Crossing Sibucao –4.2km; (2) Crossing Sibucao to San Enrique Municipal Hall – 4km; (3) San Enrique Municipal Hall to Crossing Tabao, Valladolid –3.8km; (4) Crossing Tabao to Valladolid Elementary School –3.8; (5) Valladolid Elementary School to Crossing Lag- asan in Bago City –4.6km; (6) Crossing Lag- asan to Crossing Kamatis in Bago City –4.2km; (7) Crossing Kamatis to Trese y Media in Bago City –4.8km; (8) Trese y Media to Sum-ag bridge – 4.6km; (9) Sum – ag bridge to Maranatha Christian Academy in Alijis –4.6km; and (10) Maranatha Christian Academy to Panaad Track Oval –4.5km.

“As we look into the revival of the Run Negros Run, we are staging this 43.1 KM event. We have good trails here in the province that has yet maximized. Maybe it’s high time to realize it as we are also losing long distance runners in many regional and national competitions,” Verdeflor explained.

Meanwhile, on April 13 to 18, boxing event will also be staged with the following weight divisions: Bracket A (kids 11- 12) – cotton weight (26kgs), kiddie weight (28kgs), vacuum weight (30kgs), ant weight (32kgs), and minimum weight (34 kgs); Bracket B (13- 15 y.o) – powder weight (36kgs), light mosquito weight (38 kgs), mosquito weight (40kgs), light paper weight (42kgs), and paper weight (44 kgs); Bracket C (16-18 under) – pin weight (46 kgs), light fly (48 kgs), fly (50 kgs), light bantam (52 kgs), and bantam (54 kgs); and the Elite division (19-23) – light fly (49 kgs), fly (52 kgs), bantam (56 kgs), and light (60 kgs). Weigh-in will be on April 13 from 7:30AM to 10AM while competition proper will be start at 2PM of the same day.

On April 14 to 16, chess and taekwondo will simultaneously.

Chess will have the under 13 (boys and girls) and the under 17 (boys and girls), and will be played from 8AM to 5PM.

Meanwhile, for the taekwondo, among the categories to be contested are: Juniors (Under 18 boys and girls) –1st fin weight, boys –not exceeding 45 kgs. while girls not exceeding 42 kgs.; 2nd fly, boys (45– 48 kgs) and girls (42–44 kgs.); 3rd bantam, boys (48– 51 kgs) and girls (44–46 kgs); 4th feather, boys (51–55 kgs) and girls (46– 49 kgs); 5th light, boys (55– 59 kgs) and girls (49– 52 kgs); and 6th welter, boys (59 kgs and above) and girls (52 kgs – and above).

In the elementary boys and girls (under 13): Under 11 (120– 128 cm.), Under 12 (128 – 136 cm.), Under 12 (136– 144 cm.), Under 13 (144– 152 cm.), Under 14 (152– 160 cm.) and Under 14 (160– 168 cm.).
