Mega Eye Camp Set to Celebrate 10th year of Indian Sikh Temple City to participate in 2015 Earth Hour

In line with the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Indian Sikh Temple, the Punjabi Khalsa Diwan of Bacolod City will be hosting a Mega Eye Camp at the Lobby of Bacolod People’s House on Saturday, March 28, 2015.

Eye Camp coordinator Haresh Chugani explained that the camp will distribute prescription and reading eyeglasses to indigent patients in the city. A free eye checkup will also be conducted by optometrists from Manila and Bacolod.

The program will also be a basis for eye patients with cataract, glaucoma and other ocular disorders to be referred to foundations that will help them in their operation and other procedures.

Meanwhile, the city will also take part in the celebration of the 2015 Earth Hour and will once again join the growing number of cities and towns in the Philippines in the ongoing initiative of the World Wildlife Fund to combat climate change.

As a partner, Bacolod is encouraging residents to switch off or dim their non-essential lights on Saturday, 8:30 pm for one hour. This will include streetlights, signages and key monuments.

Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella said that the event will further expand the city’s concern about the pressing issues of climate change and global warming.

The city is one with the whole world and the WWF in their continuing struggle to combat climate change, Puentevella added.

The province’s participation last year was held at the SM City grounds and several environmental programs including a coastal cleanup and mangrove and tree planting.

Earth Hour is one of WWF’s most successful campaigns and the largest voluntary movement for the planet. Last year, a record 7,000 cities and municipalities from 150 countries participated in the 60-minute “lights out” affair.*
