“I have just talked to incoming Speaker of the House Pantaleon Alvarez and I will bring up federalism with the Visayan Bloc in our next meeting,” Benitez said.
Benitez pointed out that he prefers that any change in the country’s Constitution should be through a Constituent Assembly.
Based on the plan, by 2019 there will be a referendum and by 2022 it will be fully implemented, he said.
Benitez took his oath before Judge Eunice Tan Cuansing at the Victorias City Coliseum.
In his message, he said, “this is my last term. Six years is so fast. Those who need help, I will help. There are many who need my help. The best advice and best work to deliver. Let us not give them fish but teach them how to fish. We will teach our constituents on how to be self reliant and self sufficient. Every election, we put our fate in our public officials and that is where we have to make a change. Public officials can only do so much. We need people who are self sufficient so that they will live a more comfortable life.”
He added that this will be productive three years of his life as a public official and hopes that” we can all realize the dreams of the people.”
He also thanked his family “for supporting my six years in office.”
He recalled that when he ran for public office at first, there were many oppositions.
“It took a lot of convincing to allow me to run. Now they felt the need that making a difference in the lives of the people is worthwhile than staying away. With the help of a lot of people, I, my fellow public officials, my staff among others have made sure that our plans and programs are delivered well to our constituents,” he added.
“To my fellow public officials, thank you for ensuring that the programs of the government are delivered without delay. Thank you also to the people who voted us in office. This is a time where we share our sentiments to all of you. This is the first oath-taking that I will have here as I will also have my own oath-taking before the next Speaker of the House soon,” Benetiz also said.
Victorias City Mayor Francis Frederick Palanca and Vice Mayor Jerry Jover along with the newly elected members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod also took their oaths of office.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipolentiary of Israel to the Philippines His Excellency Effie Ben Matityau, Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson were guest of honor and speaker in the said oath-taking rites.*
