Dads Requesting DICT for Free Internet

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairman of the Committee on Laws and Good Governance, to provide wireless internet access in public school libraries, parks and government institutions in the city under the National Broadband Plan (NBP) Project.

Distrito’s resolution states that, “it is a commitment of the National Government to provide wireless broadband access all over the country to be implemented by the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) through its National Broadband Plan Project.

The NBP was developed by the DICT to address the longstanding issue of internet connection quality in the Philippines. and that the NBP envisions a resilient, comfortable and vibrant life for all, enabled by open, pervasive, inclusive, affordable, and trusted broadband internet access.

Meanwhile, the City of Bacolod has an ordinance aimed also in providing free, accessible and secured wireless internet to its constituents and one of its provisions cites a counterpart project pertaining to the same that is funded by the national government.

As a top model city in the Philippines, the Bacolod City Government envisions that later this year, some of its public schools, parks and public buildings have accessible wireless internet for all that will be more accommodating if the National Broadband Plan Project (NBP) will be implemented in the city of Bacolod.*
