Cong. Teves, Benitez Present OP Program for Drug Dependents to President Duterte

“Don’t waste opportunity. Let us help them move forward.”

This was the message of Congressman Arnie Teves of the 3rd District of Negros Oriental in partnership with Congressman Alfredo “Albee” Benitez of the 3rd District of Negros Occidental. The two Congressmen will present and offer solutions to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the drug surrenderees, the Overview Outpatient Program for Drug Dependents during the press conference at Jayjies Mandalagan Wednesday, July 20, which was also graced by former Provincial Board Member Patrick Lacson, Tony Teves, brother of Cong. Teves and Eric Gallaga.

The program includes: Sessions every Monday to Friday, 5:00-8:00 pm.; Location for group therapy will preferably be in public school classrooms; there will be approximately 50 drug dependents per classroom; each group or classroom will be facilitated by two councilors; the duration of the whole program will be from 8 to 12 weeks (depending on the progress of the participant; there will be Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings Monday to Friday at 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.; location of the NA meetings will be in Barangay/Municipality/City covered courts or gymnasiums; physical therapy sessions (9:00 a.m. -10:00 a.m. will be given to those willing and physically capable for one hour right after the NA/AA meetings.

Program Outline includes in 8 weeks are: Week 1 - Orientation/Drug History, Week 2, 3, 4 -Step 1,2,3, Week 5 - Assignment Week, Week 6 - Step 4, Week 7- Step 5 Presentation and Week 8 - Relapse Prevention.

Breakdown of 5 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. regular session will be 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. - Journal and Leveling; 6:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. - Break; 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 P.M. - Film and Lecture; 7:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. - break and 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. - Group Therapy

Personnel Requirement for every 50 clients: 2 primary councilors = 1 per 25 clients; 2 secondary councilors - 1 per 25 clients; and optional volunteers councilors; 1= record keeper. They have to fill up and signed the conditions of admission which they will agree: 1. Attend with good compliance 2. Subject my self to random drug testing 3. Abstain from all forms of illegal drugs and alcohol and 4. Follow the rules of the program.

Recommendation after rehabilitation: 1. Attend 90 meetings in 90 days 2. Attend Relapse Prevention Program,3. Do Service Work 4. Avail programs like TESDA and other Livelihood Programs provided by the government.

All expenses will be shouldered by the government with an estimated cost per client of P2, 500.00 in 8 to 12 weeks.*
