Ceres FC Blackouts Meralco to Score Back-to-Back Win, 7-0
After a 7-0 victory against Ilocos United FC last week, Ceres Negros Football Club duplicated the feat against league leader FC Meralco Manila over the weekend in the ongoing 2017 the Philippines Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Iain Ramsay led the Busmen with a hat-trick to cut Meralco’s scoring power as Fernando Rodriguez’ broke the defence of Florencio Baledic Jr. on twin goals in the opening minutes of the match.
Ramsay scored his first in the 36th minute on a getaway off the long pass from Manny Ott– giving Ceres FC a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.
The Negros Occidental-based club continues to take control of the game as Ramsay nailed his second goal and his team’s fourth in the 49th minute as Stephan Schröck dispossessed Lee Jeong Min at the back field for a one-on-one go ahead goal in the 50th minute – extending Ceres FC’s advantage to 5-0.
Ramsay completed his hat-trick as he volleyed the ball past Meralco keeper in the 74th minute for a 6-0 lead. Substitute Patrick Reichelt again has his share in Ceres FC’s superb scoring when his cross at the mouth of the goal was deflected by Alvin Ken Sarmiento but, accidentally went in for a 7-0 score.
With the win, Ceres Negros FC went up in the standing at No.3 with 6 victories, a draw and pair of defeats for 19 points while Meralco remained on top with 7 wins, pair of draws and their first loss for 23 points.
Second ranked Global Cebu FC has a slim movement in its card with 6 wins, 3 draws and pair of upsets for 21 points after visiting Davao Aguilas held them on scoreless draw at the Cebu City Sports Center. Davao, on the other hand, is ranked at No.6 with 5 draws and 5 losses.* (JGToga)
