Church, Police Launch ‘Protect Panay, Guimaras Movement’

A group of stakeholders for peace led by Monsignor Meliton Oso, Director of Jaro Archdiocesan Socal Action Center (JASAC) in Iloilo City launched yesterday the Protect Panay and Guimaras Movement at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City with Pol. Chief Supt. Cesar Hawthorne Rivera Binag, PRO 6 Regional Ditector.

According to Pol. Supt. Gilbert Gorero, Public Information Officer, Police Regional Office 6, the Protect Panay and Guimaras Movement is a community-based group that will help law enforcers and other security forces in shielding the Islands of Panay and Guimaras. The community will serve as watchdog against criminality, insurgency, illegal drugs, terrorism and corruption.

The movement is committed to immediately report suspicious person in the community in keeping Western Visayas peaceful, orderly and livable.

The Movement covers the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Iloilo City, against Criminality, Illegal Drugs and Terrorism that comprise more or less 5,000 participants.

Its social media account and hotline number were established directly connected with Police Regional Office 6. This becomes a venue where the community can send their reports and concerns.

The Movement’s theme, “Hulag na, Kaupod ka!” (Kilos Na, Kasama Ka!) is calling community partnership.

Police Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne R. Binag lauded the initiative of Protect Panay Guimaras for supporting PRO6 and other security forces in making the region a safer place to live, work, visit and invest.*
