Isabela Hopes for New PNP Chief, More Cops
Isabela Mayor Joselito Y. Malabor expressed optimism that his requests, for a new municipal police chief and for five additional policemen, will be granted in a few days.
Malabor, in a phone interview yesterday told NDB he already got positive response from P/S Supt. Rodolfo D. Castil, OIC-Provincial Police Director for Negros Occidental, on his request for or recommendation, to assign as Isabela PNP Chief of Police, Chief Inspector Jake Panagsagan Barila.
In his July 6, 2017 recommendation letter addressed to Sr. Supt. Castil, a copy of which was obtained by NDB, the mayor said, “As Local Chief Executive of Isabela, I hereby recommend (Chief Insp. Barila) ...I am confident working with him (Barila) to impose laws/local ordinances, illegal drugs campaign and peace and order. His capacity and expertise is a huge advantage in terms of implementing police matters for the development of our municipality.”
“I expected some positive developments on my recommendation yesterday (Monday). Anyway I will follow it up tomorrow (today) with NOPPO and Police Regional Office (PRO18),” he said.
In his June 5, 2017 letter to Chief Supt. Edwin A. Gonzales, PNP-NIR Regional Director, a copy of which was also obtained by NDB, the Isabela mayor is requesting for five police officers to augment the current strength of the town police station.
“We have 28 police officers only and they are serving 30 barangays, 9 on poblacion and 21 on the outskirts of Isabela... We need to intensify our campaign against illegal drugs, proliferation of armed groups and other crimes,” Malabor’s letter states.
The mayor named the five police officers he prefers to augment the Isabela PNP personnel: PO3 John Bert Arrellano of Regional Public Safety Battalion-18/1st Company, PO2 Ricky Yanson of Pulupandan Police Station, PO2 Joenel Carreon also of RPSB-18/1st Company, PO1 Junval Villaflor of NOCPPSC, and PO1 Eugene Importante of the 5th Maneuver NOCPPSC.* (Arman P.
