Capitol Kicks Off Nutrition and Disaster Consciousness Month in Pontevedra

The 43rd Nutrition Month and the National Disaster Consciousness Month kicked-off at the Pontevedra Municipal Gym, yesterday.

The Provincial Nutrition Council led by Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, Dr. Jessica Fama together with Pontevedra Vice Mayor Jimmy Gavan and DILG Provincial Director Maredith Joy Madayag, turn over 15 “E-Balde’s” to barangay captains of the municipality during the launching of the 43rd Nutrition Month and National Disaster Consciousness Month at the Pontevedra Municipal gym, yesterday.*(Capitol photo)

With the theme ‘Healthy Diet, Gawing Habit for Life,’ students, teachers, health workers, local officials, and representatives from various government offices attended the event bringing placards highlighting the message of the activity; to live a healthy life by choosing good and nutritious food.

In his message, Pontevedra Vice Mayor Jimmy Gavan thanked the provincial government for holding the launching of the program in their municipality to raise awareness on the importance of healthy food especially to children.

Provincial Health Officer and Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Ernell Tumimbang expressed his gratitude to the municipal government and shared the importance of disaster preparedness and healthy living. He urged the audience to always be prepared especially during calamities.

Meanwhile, Provincial Medical Specialist III and the Guest Speaker of the activity, Dr. Jessica Fama discussed the theme of the celebration and the importance of healthy diet.

In a presentation, Dr. Fama showed the difference between healthy and unhealthy diet especially to children. She also shared tips on food safety and disaster preparedness in case of calamity.

“If we know how and what to prepare, it can save our life”, Dr. Fama said.

The Provincial Nutrition Council also turned over 15 “E-Balde’s” or Emergency baldes to fifteen barangay captains of the municipality that will serve as a sample for residents to follow.

The E-balde contains basic survival stuff like flashlights, water, and hygiene kit that will be essential during calamities.

Also present during the activity were DILG Provincil Director Joy Madayag, Pontevedra Nutrition Officer II Regina Ortega, DRRM Officer III Fairy Grace Andrico, Members of the Provincial Health Council, members of the PNP, BFP, and other government agencies.

The culmination activity will be on July 31 at the NOMPAC gym.*(Capitol News)
