1 Dead, Another Hurt in Dumaguete Store Shooting
A man was killed and his companion was injured when they were shot by two unidentified suspects inside Milagring Store located in Independencia Street, Barangay Poblacion, Dumaguete City around 2:19 a.m. Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Romeo Eden Carillaga, Jr., “Alias Yoyon”, 35, single, of Dr. V. Locsin Street, Dumaguete City. He sustained gunshot wound in the head and died on the spot as declared by One Rescue Team leader Dr. Kenneth Coo.
Injured was Reginald Stanly Mondante Almonte, 37, single, of Purok Malinawon, Barangay Santiago (Poblacion), Pagadian City, Zamboanga Del Sur. He sustained gunshot wounds on his left neck and arm and contusion on left portal area. He was rushed to Holy Child Hospital in the city and is now in critical condition.
Two (2) unidentified suspects are tagged in the shooting who are Ilonggo/Tagalog- speaking, chinky-eyed, with fair complexion and wearing white shirt.
Police investigation disclosed that the two unidentified suspects entered the store around 12:00 midnight on July 3 and ordered two bottles of beer. An hour later, the two victims arrived and also ordered beer.
Carillaga was talking to the cashier Lenith Ibasan Libaton, 18, single, the store cashier, resident of Barangay Poblacion, Pamplona town, Negros Oriental who turned out to be his girlfriend, when one of the suspects intervened and asked what was the problem.
Libaton replied they were just having a conversation. Suddenly, a heated argument erupted between the two groups. Two successive shots were heard and Libaton saw one of the suspects holding a gun and walk towards their motorcycle, a yellow MIO without plate number.
Police operatives are conducting manhunt operation against the suspects.*
