4th Brainsbee Reels Off July 5 in 3rd District
All is set for the 2014 BRAINSBEE NI ALBEE SA DISTRICT 3 come July 5 (Saturday) from 8 am to 4 pm as the first barangay elimination round will simultaneously be launched in Barangays Cansilayan and Damsite in Murcia; Barangays Cabatangan and Concepcion in Talisay; Barangays 1 and 3 in Silay City; Barangays Pasil and Alicante in E.B. Magalona; and Barangays 9 and 13 in Victorias City.
The first community-based spelling-math-science contest in the province, maybe even in the country, is now on its 4th run after then Betty Bantug Benitez Foundation president Alfredo Benitez, now Third District representative wanted to initiate in 2009 a unique academic competition that is open to all elementary and high school students residing in his district. With the support and assistance of the Department of Education, the provincial and local government units, barangay officials of the 115 barangays in the district, BRAINSBEE reached 12,650 youths by 2012 during its 3rd run.
Today BRAINSBEE has become a much awaited event in the barangay. The Betty Bantug Benitez Foundation, Inc. (BBBFI) continues to be its major sponsor in partnership with the Congressional District Office of Congressman Benitez and the Department of Education, providing invaluable technical expertise and assistance.
Hopeful elementary pupils from the barangays have already registered through their school or barangays for the July 5 spelling contest in the selected opening salvo venues. High school students have also signed up for the math and science contest. The barangay eliminations will continue on all Saturdays and Sundays from July to August this year. The city/town finals is set for September and the grand district finals is slated on October 12, 2014.
According to BBBFI executive director Mary Ann Dino, invited to grace the launching program at 8 am July 5 in Barangay Cansilayan, Murcia are Governor Alfredo Marañon, Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano, Negros Occidental Schools Superintendent Dr. Juliet Jeruta, Silay City Schools Superintendent Dr. Neri Anne Alibuyog, BBBFI president Armita Bantug Rufino, and BBBFI vice-president Jose Francisco Benitez who is also president of the Philippine Women’s University.*
