On Protective Custody of Serenio, ‘Go Ahead,’ Magsie Tells Gov

“Go ahead!”

That was the reaction of Moises Padilla Mayor Magdaleno Peña to the pronouncement of Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. that he would file a complaint and seek an investigation into the circumstances leading to the protective custody of self-confessed drug personality Ricky Serenio by two Negros Occidental mayors.

“Ako naga-accept ko da ya because of my official function as Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) consultant. Whatever the Governor wants, he wants to file a case? Go ahead and hurry up!,” Peña told ABS-CBN Wednesday.

At the same time, Marañon said that “it is highly questionable that two mayors will have protective custody of Serenio.”

The self-confessed drug personality was taken into protective custody by Magsie Peña and his son Pulupandan Mayor Miguel Peña after the Court granted the latter’s motion.

Serenio is under the “protective custody” of Pulupandan police chief Senior Insp. Alfred de Leon.

The Governor said he has received information that Serenio “is not only threatened but also manhandled to force him to link certain personalities to the illegal drug trade.”

“Serenio should be presented to the media so that he can be questioned on the validity of his claims in his affidavit,” Marañon said.*
