2 Bacolod Cagers Make Debut in 2018 PBA D-League
Two Bacolodnon players were among those who are set to make debut when the new season of the PBA Developmental League opens on January 18.
Gerard Castor and Spencer Pretta, who both hails from Bacolod City, were among the 124 players selected during the 2017 PBA D-League draft late last year that lasted through 18 rounds, the longest in five editions.
Pretta was picked by Zark’s Burger/Lyceum Pirates in the seventh round of the draft while Castor was drafted by Go For Gold/College of St. Benilde Blazers in the 14th round.
Prior to playing in Manila, Pretta had a stint with Sun Yat Sen High School, while Castor was a former standout of University of St. La Salle.
AMA Online Education Titans went the unconventional way in the rookie draft as it selected little-known Filipino-Canadian forward Owen Graham as its top-overall selection.
Titans also picked the most players in the draft at 18, including University of Santo Tomas Tigers’ Jose Escalambre and Zach Huang, Far Eastern University’s Kevin Ebona and Richard Escotto and University of the East Red Warriors’ Philip Manalang.
Marinerong Pilipino, meanwhile, nabbed collegiate standouts Alvin Pasaol of Red Warriors, Abu Tratter of De La Salle Green Archers, and Vince Tolentino of Ateneo Blue Eagles, while Che’Lu Bar and Grill-San Sebastian got Robert Ricafort of University of the Philippines and Arvin Tolentino of Tamaraws.*
