Geamala, New DSWD 6 Regional Director
Rising from the ranks, an Ilongga social worker. Rebecca Palma-Geamala, is now regional director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 6 based in Iloilo City, effective January 4, 2016, says May Rago-Castillio, DSWD 5 Regional Information Officer.
A native of Iloilo City, Geamala started with DSWD in 1980 as Vocational Rehabilitation Worker 1 focused on the elderly, and persons with disability, then handled various positions, the latest of which was Assistant Regional Director for Operations.
Geamala replaces outgoing RD Ma. Evelyn Macapobre, who was reassigned to her home region, Cebu City as head of the office.
Macapobre has served Western Visayas region for 3 years, with passion and commitment bringing in positive changes to the poor and vulnerable sectors. This enabled DSWD Region 6 to receive awards like: Huwarang Pantawid National winner in 2014; Gawad Listahan national Winner component city category; best facilitation model and best disaster reponse project under the sustainable livelihood program in 2015.
Geamala vows to continue the programs of her predecessor for the benefit of target beneficiaries.*(EdithB. Colmo)
