Bacolod cop shot dead

A policeman assigned at Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Station 5 (Granada) was shot dead, while another one was wounded, late Saturday afternoon at Canonoy Beach Resort in Barangay Gargato in Hinigaran.

Killed was PO2 Britches “Monggol” Lapus Talapiero, 36, member of the PNP Class “Masikap” assigned at BCPO, a resident of Stone Heaven Subdivision in Barangay Granada, Bacolod.

Talapiero sustained a gunshot wound on his back. He was rushed to the Hinigaran Medical Clinic but was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Jansen Vergara.

Hinigaran PNP chief, Police Chief Inspector Alan Gary Resuma, identified the suspect as Joey De Los Reyes Belenario, 39, married of Sitio Hayang-Hayang in Barangay Anahaw, Hinigaran, the security guard of Canonoy resort. Belenario is detained at the Hinigaran PNP jail.

The other victim who sustained two gunshot wounds when he was earlier allegedly shot by PO2 Talapiero, was identified as Leslie John Dojillo, 22, single of Crossing Anahaw in Sitio Dinandan, Barangay Anahaw, Hinigaran.

He is now at a Bacolod hospital.

Prior to the shootings, Dojillo has an altercation with Rutchy Talapiero, the younger brother of PO2 Talapiero.

Dojillo, who was allegedly under the influence of liquor, greeted Rutchy with “happy new year” in an alleged bad manner while walking on the beach front. The younger Talapiero who was also allegedly under liquore’s influenced got irked and insulted the way he was greeted by Dojillo, triggering a commotion between them.

Talapiero sought assistance of his policeman brother and they chased Dojillo who also ran towards his companions but he was allegedly shot by the policeman.

After shooting Dojillo, the PO2 Talapiero escaped but was chased by the security guard and seeing the victim having a firearm. A grapple allegedly ensued.

The resort’s caretaker, a certain “Estoya” turned over to Hinigaran PNP the following as evidences; one Glock 17 .9mm pistol with SN: PNP15148 with one magazine loaded with 12 live ammos; one 12-gauge shotgun, ARMSCOR, with SN:1279992; and one black Pistol Belt with three live ammos of a 12-gauge shotgun.
