Sagay City and the Municipality of Binalbagan were named Best Performing City and Municipality in the Province of Negros Occidental during the Pasidungog 2013 – Provincial Excellence in Governance Award, held at Nature’s Village Resort and Hotel in Talisay City, yesterday.
The awarding ceremony was spearheaded by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)–Negros Occ. headed by Dir. Ma. Joy Maredith Madayag.
The Pasidungog 2013 is DILG’s program aimed at recognizing local government units that showed exemplary performance and innovations.
The Silay City Health Office will conduct the "1st Zumba Silay" as part of the fund raising campaign of the city government to help Yolanda victims.
City Registered Nurse Arlene Chiu said that all are invited to join the activity that will start at exactly 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, Friday December 6, 2013.
"There will be registration fees and t-shirts for sale. The proceeds will be converted to toiletries e.g. toothbrush, tissue papers and etc. that shall be given to the victims," she said.
Zumba is a fitness program that uses upbeat music. It is an aerobic dance that is a lot of fun and easy to learn. Zumba can last about an hour and includes several dance styles.
The vacant lot at the back of the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) is now being prepared to be a multi-purpose venue for sports and other activities.
"We’re doing this mainly for the youth and promote physical fitness," said Executive Assistant IV Rocky Puentevella. He further added that the idea sprouted after he received several inquiries from the Frisbee and Flag Football circle to have a place for them to engage in friendly competition.
The initiative will likewise be a way to develop the BGC as an alternative venue for sporting events following the success of the "Vans Rocks MassKara" last October.

An optimistic Puentevella also foresees that, aside from a standard sized football field, the lot will house a basketball and tennis court and "eventually", a skate and BMX park, should the city gain additional resources in the future.
Deb Matthew Daclan and Jan Mickael Casaña will most-likely join the Philippine Juniors’ team to compete in the 2014 World Juniors’ Championship and World Cadet Championships in Taipei.
Vic Feria, Hanah Taekwondo gym head coach, said that Daclan and Casaña were among those selected during the evaluation held Tuesday in Manila.
"They are scheduled to return on January 9 for another evaluation process," Feria said. "And since they were picked during the evaluation, there is a high percentage that they will be included in the national team," he added.

The activity will end a day before the 2013 Provincial Meet commences, Romeo Sison, Provincial Department of Education (DepEd) Sports coordinator said.
Coaches of 21 different sports events will attend the training-workshop which serves as refreshers for them. Each district is allowed to send two participants, while secondary schools, not more than one for each event.
