SJI Beats BTTHS in NOPSSCEA 10-U Caging

St. John’s Institute (SJI) defeated Bacolod Tay Tung High School (BTTHS), 54-19, in the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association (NOPSSCEA) 10 & under basketball tournament played at STI-WNU gym Sunday.

Burj Gabriel Lapuos sizzled for 25 points for STI Baby Falcons after bouncing back from a year break and gunning for nine division title before losing to University of St. La Salle last year.

STI Baby Falcons took the first quarter, 10-6 and led at half time, 19-7.

They extended it, 35-11 in the third quarter.

Backstopping Lapuos were Gerard Ciocon with 6 points; Kurt Bryan Villanueva shot 5 ; Luke Andrei Zapata, Gabrielle Dominique Lopez, Barcelona fired 4 points each; Santino Miguel Loretizo, Joshua Lebron Sofia, Zachary Vincent Javelosa and Jose Miguel Sy scored 2 points apiece.

Coach Troy Sarabia and Asst. Coach Efren Miravilles are the coaches for the SJI Baby Falcons.

The BTTHS is led by Emmanuel Salvio with 8 points; Carl Justin Jalea added 6; while Derrick Uy and Mark Orian had 4 points each; Bryan Ong and Philip Sison with 1 apiece.

Coach Renato Atoy Callora Jr. and Asst. coach Dan Ariolas mentored the BTTHS.

Lapuos also led the Mythical Five selections with teammates, Zapata and Ciocon; Emmanuel Salvio and Carl Justin Jalea from BTTHS that comprises the five.

Other members of the SJI team are Edward Felix Doromal, Julio Lorenzo Teruel, Julio Roseller Mapa, Tristan Valencia, Ethan Matthew Ramirez, Franco Nazareno and Sam Sardua.* (Cyrus M. Garde)
