Rebels Threatening Negros Occidental Police Stations

The Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) is threatening all the police stations in the Negros Island Region (NIR), according to Senior Insp. Armilyn Vargas, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-18 (PRO-18).

Vargas said police regional director, Chief Superintendent Renato Gumban already instructed all the police chiefs in NIR to be on alert.

All regular personnel are also reminded to remain steadfast and vigilant in conducting pre-emptive patrols and undertake extra security precautions to prevent future atrocities of the CPP-NPA, she said.

She added that police personnel in the region are reminded to strengthen the defense of all their camps, police stations, police precincts, and outposts.

Meanwhile, National Democratic Front (NDF)-Negros spokesperson, Frank Fernandez, said President Rodrigo Duterte’s call for all out war against the CPP-NPA will further worsen the number of extra-judicial killings and alleged human rights violations in the country.

In a letter sent to local media, the priest-turned-rebel called Duterte stance as “Du-dirty.”

He said the “left” progressive organizations could also be affected by Duterte’s calls.

Fernandez added the president has to answer for the victims of extra-judicial killing and human rights violations.*
