BACIWA defers implementation of P15. rate hike
Due to the request of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Bacolod City to defer the implementation of the water rate increase by the Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA), Atty. Lorendo Dilag, chairman of the Board of Trustees said, they have referred it to the Local Waterworks Utilities Administration (LWUA) to decide on the matter because the rate increase was also approved by LWUA. While waiting for the comment or decision of LWUA, the BACIWA Board has deferred the implementation of the rate increase from P2.00 to P15.00 per cubic meter. If LWUA will insist on the increase, they will discuss on the effectivity whether retroactive or on the date of approval. But most of the Board members said they will just adopt the date of approval as effectivity of rate increase, Dilag explained.
As a matter of fact, he said, BACIWA services has greatly improved compared to the previous months’ operation. With the existence of Bacolod Bulk Water Inc. (BBWI) supplying BACIWA with 15 million liters per day of water produced by Injection point Number 1 in Brgy. Granada, there are areas not served before that are now enjoying the water supplied by BACIWA.
Dilag also said, once injection point number 2 in Brgy. Mansilingan becomes operational by April this year, BBWI will produce another 15 million liters of water per day, making a total of 30 million liters per day of water served to the Bacolodnons.
However, this is not yet enough to address the demand of water in Bacolod because subdivisions and businesses are sprouting all over the city. Therefore, BACIWA is open to all who could offer supply water to BACIWA as long as it will not go beyond the amount that BBWI is charging BACIWA, which is P8.85 per liter.*
