CENRO-Bago rescues sea turtles, 3 pythons

DENR’s Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)–Bago City had rescued three Sea Turtles and three Reticulated Pythons from different cities and towns.

One female Green Sea Turtle was rescued from Zone 4/Zone 5, Brgy. Central Tabao, Valladolid on January 12, 2018. Its carapace measures 90 cm in length and 70 cm in width, weighing 130 kilograms. A metal tag, PH1201K was placed on the right foreflipper.

The pawikan was active and healthy and released back into the sea at 10:25 a.m. of the same day.

A reticulated python was rescued at San Enrique Police Station last January 22, 2018. The python was initially captured at Brgy. Sibukaw, San Enrique which measures 94 inches long with a diameter of 11 inches at its widest.

Last January 31, 2018 another reticulated python was turned over to DENR CENRO Bago City Wildlife Rehabilitation Center from Purok Masinadyahun, Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod City. It measures 426 cm long and 13 cm in diameter at its widest and weighs 20 kilograms.

The third reticulated python was caught at Purok 6, Brgy. Granada, Bacolod City last February 6, 2018 which measures 397 cm in length, 12 cm in diameter at its widest and weighs approximately 20 kilos.

The three reticulated pythons were assesed to have cuts and wounds. They are currently undergoing rehabilitation at DENR-CENRO Bago City Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, Bantayan Park, Bago City for their recovery and release them back into the wild.*(PR)
