Grand New Year's Eve Celebration at NGC

Bacolod City will celebrate New Year’s Eve with a party that will be capped by a grand fireworks display at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds from 6 p.m. to 12 midnight of Saturday, Dec. 31.

BRIDGING THE KIDS. Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran, Councilor Em Ang, who facilitated the project, Councilor Bart Orola, and Barangay Handumanan officials cut the ribbon at the inauguration of the newly built 72-foot steel footbridge at Zone 6 in Barangay Handumanan yesterday. The P900,000 steel bridge connects Zone 6 of Brgy. Handumanan and Purok Villa Maria of Barangay Mansilingan, which is a big help to schoolchildren of the said areas in going to Handumanan Elementary School and Handumanan National High School, as they no longer have to get wet in crossing the river. “A small project as it may be, this bridge immensely improves the situation of the children in Mansilingan and Handumanan, making their morning walk to school safer and easier,” Ang, who authored two resolutions for the construction of the footbridge, said.*(City PIO photos)

Mayor Evelio Leonardia is calling on all Bacoleños to celebrate the New Year together as one family at the BGC. The event, dubbed as “31 to 1,” is one occasion when Bacolod should come together as one family, he said, adding that collectively watching the fireworks display is safer as households will no longer need to shoot fireworks individually.

The party will feature a “Salute to Senior Citizens” that will honor the city’s citizens and a “Celebration of Excellence” which will honor Bacoleño achievers for the year.

“It is fitting that as we bid goodbye to 2016, we honor those who gave Bacolod honors during the year to inspire us to welcome 2017 with hope and optimism,” Leonardia said.

The honorees will include board topnotchers from Bacolod schools, and performing artists who won in national competitions during the year.

The program that will give cakes to senior citizens on their birthdays starting next year will be launched. The ordinance on this program was authored by Councilor Dindo Ramos, chair of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Senior Citizens and Veteran Affairs.

“31 to 1” will begin 6 p.m. with lights up. Raffle and door prizes will be given away.

The barangay with the most number of attendees will also get a prize.
