Six houses were destroyed and about 55 others, including a covered court and other structures, were damaged when a tornado hit parts of Barangay 1-A in Manapla town early yesterday afternoon.
Manapla Mayor Lourdes Escalante confirmed to media that the 15-minute twister that ripped the barangay shortly after noon time, left at six houses destroyed and some 55 damaged.
Mayor Escalante who immediately responded to the scene of the disaster said the Department of Social Welfare and Development (SWD) extended assistance to the needs of the victims.
More relief aid were forthcoming as of yesterday afternoon such as food and housing materials.
Luckily, no one was hurt among the residents, although a mild panic had ensued.
According to Sangguniang Bayan member Roy Plagata, the tornado hit houses at Calle Onse in Sitio Happy-Happy in Barangay 1-A.
Plagata said the barangay covered court’s roof and trusses, which were also damaged by Typhoon Yolanda years ago, were also damaged by yesterday’s strong whirldwind.
Plagata helped in the rescue of those affected, while SB member Felix Robles was seeking funds to help the victims, many of whom opted to immediately repair their houses, mostly made of light materials, than stay at the barangay hall of Brgy. 1-A.*
