PTSCT, Brgy.Mansilingan Win Annual Fiesta Team Chess
The Panes Trucking Services Chess Team (PTSCT) duo of Frances Glen Panes and Joel Garanzo emerged victorious after Round 7 to secure the Open division title in the recently-concluded 2017 Barangay Mansilingan Annual Fiesta Team Chess Tournament at A.L. Jayme Elementary School.

Team Montoyo composed of Ted Ian Montoyo and Handum Tuazon settled for the second place honor after they lost in tie-break points against the eventual champion PTSCT, while Sadia squad of Romeo Sadia III & Engr Lipiten finished in third place.
The two-man teams of Mangao/Labrador and Raymund/Romel placed fourth and fifth respectively to complete the Top 5.
Mansilingan Chess Society president Engineer Nestor Cena expressed his gratitude to the support of the participants, chess coaches, parents, and the Barangay Mansilingan Council headed by Punong Barangay Leonardo Suansing Sr for making this team chess tournament successful.
“Our sport program does’nt stop here. We are lining up a series of chess events for next year that can help the players’ preparations in local and national sports meet,” Engr Cena added.
In the 14&U Kiddies group, the Brgy.Mansilingan trio of Neil Vincent Cena, and Pelione brothers - Clark & Christian captured the top honor with 12 MP in seven rounds.
The team of three of San Carlos City composed of Franz Dominic Silva, Brian Nanalabe, and Benedict Vishnu Nanalabe edged third place Escalante A with Jamon Cajeras, Cyrus De Asis, and Jecuambs Cuambot in tie-break points to secure a second place finish. Both teams have a total score of 11 MP.
Fourth place STI A with chessers Tyron Yao, Karl Alabert Alvaran & Prince Bryan Baloya, and fifth place Chess Miters A with players Jose Charles Montalvo, Jed Matthew Montoyo & Justin Montoya complete the Top 5.
Special awards were given to Chess Cafe A for the Top 10&U team, Pulang Araw for Top Class A-, and Franco/Andador for Top Class B.
Board champions in Open division were Panes in Bno.1 and Ardy Mendoza in Bno.2; while Cajeras, JM Montoyo, and Christian Pelione top their respective board numbers in the Kiddies group.
This rapid chess team event is supported by Mansilingan Barangay Council and organized by the officers and members of ManChess headed by Engr Cena.* (James G. Toga)
