Days to go before his match against defending Champion Edward Heno in Bacolod City, Merlito “Tiger Sabillo” has gone into training with his coach Sonny Villagonzalo for the Oriental Pacific Federation Light Flyweight Title. Heno holds a record of (11W-0L-5D, 5KO’s) while the challenger Sabillo has (24W-4L-1D, 13KO’s) coming to this title fight as the challenger.

The event is presented by Highland International Boxing Promotion and will be staged on February 17, 2018.

There has been a viral article circulating on social media saying that being single is a disability. Although unproven, it has struck debate among people who are happily single and those who are desperate for a relationship.

Some took it as a pressure to hold while others disputed upon the irrationality. Nonetheless, the bottom line here is for a person to find a partner he or she can potentially spend the rest of life with.

The 13th Bacolaodiat Festival will not be using products containing high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) during the duration of the festival on February 15 to 18.

There will be no Coca-Cola and Pepsi products during the festival.

The festival organizers will only be accommodating San Mig Cola which uses 100% Philippine sugar.

This is in support of the sugar industry, city officials, and the campaign against HFCS.*

Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CENECO) consumers connected to Bacolod-Silay 69kV Transmission Lines experienced unscheduled power interruptions on February 12, 2018, Monday.

Two of Bacolod-Silay 69kV poles went down and caused the unscheduled power outages in the areas covered by Burgos, Mt. View, Talisay, Lopez and Panaogao (Silay) Feeders.

Power completely resumed on Monday, 8:47 PM, in Burgos, Mt. View and Talisay Feeders.

Some 481 new soldiers have successfully finished the 3-month training for Classes 491, 492 and 505 under the 3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army.

According to Capt. Eduardo Precioso, Jr., head, 3ID Public Affairs Office (DPAO), they finished the trainings of a Candidate Soldier Course (CSC) and Jungle Warfare Mountain Operation Course (JWMOC) held at the 3rd Division Training School (3DTS).

The implementation of the deployment ban of overseas Filipino workers to Kuwait will increase the unemployment rate in the country, said General Alliance of Workers Association (GAWA) Secretary-General Wennie sancho.

“The ban will have an impact on the problem of unemployment which is already high,” Sancho said.

“Our employment growth cannot sufficiently reduce our unemployment due to the rapid population growth and increasing labor force participation,” Sancho said.

Some 200 couples living together for quite sometime have exchanged vows yesterday, February 13, whom Mayor Evelio Leonardia solemnized at the lobby of the Bacolod City Government Center, giving impetus to the celebration of Valentine’s Day. This is a yearly event of the city usually held on February 14, but this time moved to February 13 because Feb. 14 happens to be Ash Wednesday.

It’s once in a blue moon that Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day celebrations coincide, but this year does after 73 years. The last time was in 1945.

Incidentally, Easter Sunday and April Fools’ Day also fall on the same date this year.

For Catholics, Ash Wednesday is one of the holiest days when the priests put a marking of the sign of the Cross on the foreheads to remind us that man comes from dust and to dust shall he return.

Moderate to heavy rains and up to 65 kph winds are likely to prevail over Visayas and Mindanao, particualrly in Cebu, Negros and Panay, and Palawan until tomorrow Thursday, although Storm Basyang has slowed down as it was forecast to make landfall in the Visayas last night, state weather bureau PAGASA said last night.

Meanwhile, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia announced the suspension of classes today, Feb. 14, in both public and private pre-schools only. All elementary and secondary school students, on the other hand will resume classes today.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) advised lovers and couples to be wary of criminals who are out to take advantage of Valentine’s Day to carry out their unscrupulous activities.

“Notorious individuals and crime groups will take advantage through some modus operandi such as Credit Card Scam (Baraha Gang), Bukas Kotse Modus, Ipit-Taxi Modus, Laslas Bag/Pocket Gang, Pitas Tactics, and Salisi Modus,” PNP spokesperson Chief Supt. John Bulalacao said yesterday.
