It will be a busy sporting week for Cadiz City when it stages numerous sports undertaking in relation to the celebration of the 44th Dinagsa Festival from January 13 to 28, 2018.

Hundreds of footballers are expected to converge at the Bayabas Elementary School on January 13 when the 2-day 7-A-Side Football Festival kicks off alongside Futsal Tournament at the Cadiz City Grandstand.

With 4 days before the Ceres Negros FC leaves for Myanmar to play their first international match in the 2018 AFC Champions League qualifiers, the club has completed their new recruits with Mike Rigoberto Ott – Manny Ott’s younger brother.

The younger Ott, who also suited up for the national men’s team scoring 2 goals in 12 appearances, last played for the Angthong Football Club in Thai League 2 booking 7 goals in 21 outings.

For December 1 to 31, 2017 only, the City Treasurer’s Office - Land Tax Division of Bacolod City has collected an “unprecedented” P348,062,948 in Real Property Tax (RPT) advance payment for 2018 real property taxes (RPT), as reported by Arlene Memoria, local treasury operations officer to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

Memoria said, the collection is P127,392,186 or 57.73 percent higher than the collection in the same period last year [Dec. 1 to 31, 2016], which was P220,670,761.

Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo G. Marañon, Jr. and Philippine National Bank (PNB) First Vice President Nixon S. Ngo signed the Second Amendment to Contract of Lease with the Philippine National Bank (PNB), yesterday.

Under the amendment, the PNB may construct building and perform other renovations on the remaining underdeveloped portion of the leased premises at their cost and expenses, allowing them to sublet the building or any improvements according to their terms and conditions.

A younger brother hacked dead his elder brother in Purok Nato, Barangay Canlandog, Murcia town around 6:00 p.m. Sunday.

Police Senior Inspector Ronald Santillan, Murcia PNP OIC police chief identified the victim as Roberto Alib Esparas, Jr., 44, single, resident of the place.

He sustained multiple hack wounds in the body and died on the spot.

The suspect is his younger brother, Joy Alib Esparas, 29, also of the place.

Village official Ronald Palermo informed Murcia PNP of the incident and responded to the place.

A father died in the hospital while being treated at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) in Bacolod City after they figured in a road accident around 7:00 p.m. Sunday in Purok Estiwetis, Barangay Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.

The fatality was identified as Cading Simbahon Barrios, 55, married, of Purok Pinya, Barangay Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto. He sustained head and body injuries and was brought to CLMMRH where he died while being treated.

The Office of the Ombudsman has found probable cause to charge before the Sandiganbayan a former Negros Occidental town mayor for failing to disclose two business interests in his Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALNs) from 2007 to 2010.

The Ombudsman indicted former Moises Padilla Mayor Francisco Nazareno for four counts of violation of Section 8 of Republic Act 6713, or the “Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees,” and two counts of violation of Section 3(h) of RA 3019, or the “Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act”.

Officials of beleaguered St. John’s Institute (SJI) popularly known in Bacolod City as Hua Ming, saw a ray of hope in their cause after the president of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) wrote Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon favoring the school.

“After studying our letter to them, its president Fr. Joel Tabora, SJ and Fr. Adolfo Dacanay their canon lawyer, wrote the bishop (Buzon) that the school has no fault that stripped us of our status as a Catholic school,” Benjamin Lopue, SJI president said.
