As my wife and I update our family cherished memories, this essay briefly encapsulizes our lives and that of our children and grandchildren. Hence, I have looked at the entire panorama of my family and career above all as essentially a search for a meaningful life worth living. From the earliest years, one basic question had been deeply lodged in my life: “Why am I here?” What is the meaning of my life especially after growing older and learning more about my existence?

From the Editor-in-Chief

There are many words but only one could best describe my early life being the son of a struggling family of seven children whose only hope for survival is ‘hand-to-mouth’ existence through hard labor day in and day out: POVERTY.

How we survived this deep-seated poverty through the years that impoverished our lives as a family working together under an atmosphere of sufferings, helped us surmount the seemingly indestructible odds with faith in our hearts, was a story in itself.

II was born poor and miserable from a family whose roots were among the poorest of the poor, my father being a sickly calesa driver who could hardly earn enough to meet our daily meals, most often had to skip one or two meals a day, thus often dubbed “one day-one eat”.

Friends and proponents of the Negros Museum gathered Monday for the unveiling of the first phase of its refurbishment program, as well as the opening of Talamdan, an exhibit on the images of Negros in the Records Collection of the National Archives of the Philippines.

Mrs. Angelica Urra-Berrie, Mrs. Lyn Gamboa, Mrs. Isabel Coliongco-Urra, Dr. Marilyn Marañon and Mr. Jose Mari Chan cut the ribbon in last Monday’s unveiling of the first phase of the refurbishment program of the Negros Museum and the opening of Talamdan exhibit.*

A suspect was arrested by EB Magalona police in a drug bust around 9:25 p.m. Monday at Purok Balungay, Barangay Tabigue, EB Magalona, Negros Occidental.

Police Senior Inspector Rhojn Darell Nigos, EB Magalona PNP OIC police chief identified the suspect as Raffy Mansueto Balibalos, 41, married, of Purok Bulangay, Barangay Tabigue, EB Magalona.

Police recovered from him six and one small heat sealed suspected shabu including a buy bust item in exchange of P250 marked money and other drug paraphernalia.

A farmer was shot and wounded by a laborer in a drinking spree at Purok 4, Barangay Magballo, Kabankalan City around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan PNP OIC police chief identified the victim as Victor Flores Eleuterio, 55, married, of Purok 4, Magballo, Kabankalan. He sustained gunshot wound on his upper chest and left arm and was rushed to Lorenzo Zayco District Hospital for treatment and was later transferred to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Two construction workers from Cebu and Bohol were hacked by unidentified suspect resulting to the death of one and wounding of another that happened around midnight Monday in Sitio Kanangkaan, Barangay General Luna, Toboso town, Negros Occ.

Police Chief Inspector Riel Pico, Toboso PNP OIC chief identified the fatality as Fidel Bao Devera, Jr., 38, married, from Panlaan, Dumanjog, Cebu province.

He sustained hack wounds in the different parts of his body and died on the spot.

The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) bestowed commendations on Monday on its four personnel with notable accomplishments in recent weeks, a Philippine News Agency report said.

Senior Inspector Armilyn Vargas, public information officer of BCPO, said these policemen were recognized for manifesting high degree of professionalism, dedication, and loyalty to service.

Employees of the provincial government of Negros Occidental are receiving their incentives as ordered by Gov. Alfredo Marañon, Jr.

Initial release is P20,000 for Collective Negotiation Agreement (CNA), P3,000 anniversary bonus and P5,000 Productivity Enhancement Incentives, and the last release will be next week before end of the month, the amount of another P25,000, or a total of P58,000 each provincial employee.
