October 31 is a special non-working holiday to give employees, particularly those who live away from their homes, the chance to return to their places to pay homage to their dearly departed on All Saints Day and All Souls Day.

For daily wage earners under “no work, no pay” system, they might opt to go home this Friday and forego the day’s earnings on Monday (October 30) so that they’ll have more time with their families.

Sometime in early 2015, famed Negrense engineer Eddie Granada who hails from Victorias City, visited NDB and had a long recollection of his early years in Victorias before he left for good in Mississippi, USA where he made a fortune in business and meaningful pursuits, earning a huge income that enabled him to send millions of his savings to build a successful educational institution, the Grande Computer Outreach Training Center, offering free on-the-job trainings for out-of-school youths, benefitting hundreds and even thousands of poor but deserving students now earning substantially and getting good employment both here and abroad.

Travel Goals, a short story of a guy who was heartbroken that went on a journey to find himself and in the process, meets an adventurous, environmental activist girl who was on her own journey to follow her dreams, romped off with the grand prize in the recent “Sa Geothermal May Forever” video challenge launched by Energy Development Corporation (EDC).


Christine Joy Conception and Ian Jun Pangantihon, stars of Travel Goals, a short film made by Bacolod students won the grand prize in the recent EDC video challenge entitled “Sa Geothermal May Forever.”*

Four wanted persons were arrested by police operatives in Negros Occidental.

Two were in San Carlos city, one each in Silay City and Binalbagan town.

In San Carlos City, Superintendent D’Artagnan Katalbas, Jr. identified the arrested suspect as Jofel Escorial Bacalla, of legal age, for frustrated murder. His arrest warrant was issued by Judge Amy Alabado Avellano of the Regional Trial Court, Branch-57 in San Carlos City dated May 17, 2017.

The Court recommended bail bond of P200, 000 for his temporary liberty. He is now detained.

Tanjay City police arrested a senior citizen in Barangay Azagra, Tanjay City, Negros Oriental around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Police Superintendent Frankie Lugo, Tanjay City OIC police chief identified the suspect as Wilfredo Goma Gaso, 62, married, resident of the said place.

The suspect was arrested by combined operatives of Tanjay City PNP and Regional Public Safety Battalion-Region 7 who served his arrest warrant issued by Judge Winston Villegas of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 43-Dumaguete City for violating RA 7610, the Child Abuse Law dated October 24.

A man escaped death after he was shot three times in Upper Aglipay Street, Barangay 1, Bais City, Negros Oriental around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Police identified the victim as Jhorim Pacure Saldonido, 27, single, of Sitio Tambacan, Barangay 1, Bais City. He sustained gunshot wounds on his right arm and elbow and was brought to Bais City District Hospital for treatment. He was later transferred to Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital in Dumaguete City.

Gang war is being eyed as motive in the shooting of an 18-year-old in Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City.

Senior Inspector Wilfredo Benoman, Police Station 8 chief identified the victim as Mark June Arca, of Purok Crossing 8, Barangay Tangub, Bacolod City. He sustained gunshot wound in the body and was brought to South Bacolod General Hospital in Barangay Pahanocoy.

The suspect is a certain “Alyas Small,” of Purok San Roque, Tangub. He fled after the shooting.

An epileptic was found dead in a creek in Hacienda Lourdes, Barangay Estefania, Bacolod City Wednesday morning.

The victim was identified as Ronilo Lachica, 25, of the place. Initial report disclosed that he drowned.

Police Station 4 under Chief Inspector Richee Gohee said they conducted investigation on the case and learned that the victim left their house Tuesday to look for scrap he can sell, but failed to come home in the evening.

His family has looked for him only to find out he was floating in a creek.
