The 8th Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr., Cup Open Boxing Tournament finals will open today at Sagay Gym in Sagay City, 1PM.

The tournament was re-scheduled from its original week from October 15 to 21 because of unavailability of billeting quarters, according to the president of the Negros Occidental Sports Coordinator and at the same time the sports coordinator of Sagay City, Mr. Benzon Fernandez.

This is because of non available billeting centers that can accommodate hundred of boxers from the province and also from Negros Oriental to participate.

With four decades of experience on his side, English Grandmaster Nigel Short defeated Indian GM Srinath Narayanan in the final round to win the 2017 Negros International Open Chess Championship at Ikthus Osbron Hall in Bacolod City.

GM Short posted a total of 8.0 points in 9 rounds, while GM Narayanan gathered 6.0 pts to finish 4th.

Bienvenido Marañón of Ceres-Negros Football Club connected the lone goal, 1-0, to win its match against host team Stallion Laguna FC on Saturday in the ongoing Philippines Football League at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna.

Marañón scored in the 28th minute who got a quick look for a free-kick from Man of the Match Stephan Shrock.

Controversy shook the field in the final minutes after midfielder Dan Villarico of Stallion Laguna was down inside the box after a challenge but the referee allowed continuation of play.

Consumer advocates filed a motion for reconsideration on the ERC decision authorizing Ceneco to collect P0.0817 / kwh for 50 months, or until the amount is fully paid, from its consumers to pay the P232 million differential billing which Ceneco owes to Kepco.

The amount of P232 million is being used as the monster to manipulate emotions and scare consumers to mindlessly oppose the ERC decision without taking the time and effort to study the whole issue.

It is best to put things in their proper perspective before reacting to any issue.

Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. defers its action to collect the Php232 million differential billing recovery of Kepco-Salcon Power Corporation (KSPC) for the period of July 26, 2011 to November 25, 2013 as approved by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) on June 27, 2017 docketed as ERC Case No. 2013-141 RC.

In the said order, CENECO is mandated to collect the amount at the rate of Php0.0817 per kilo watt-hour for 50 months or until the Php232 million is fully recovered.

A 19-year-old student was found dead in a creek behind a school in Barangay Felisa in Bacolod City Friday morning.

Police Station 10 chief, Senior Inspector Kim Zita identified the victim as Hillary Baynosa, of Purok Paho, Sayson Village, Barangay Felisa.

She went missing Wednesday evening but her parents did not report it to police authorities.

Hillary was found behind the Jovito Sayson National High School in Barangay Felisa.

When found, her underwear and bra were missing but she was wearing a shirt.

Landslides occurred in some areas in Bago City, such as in the mountainous barangays of Elijan and Ma-ao, where trees also damaged houses there as well as in Barangay Atipuluhan.

According to Dr. Mary Jean Ortizo, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) action officer, landslides happened in Sitio Gintubhan in Elijan and in some sitios of Ma-ao, forcing some families to evacuate last Wednesday evening due to continuous rain.

A father and his son got killed, and his wife got injured after their motorcycle collided with a tractor in Manapla town Saturday.

Police Chief Inspector Edencio Gregorio identified the victims as Cris Capacilan, of legal age, and his 7-year-old old son, all of Hacienda Anecita in barangay San Pablo in Manapla.

Injured was Dionesa Capacilan.

The 7-year-old reportedly died on-the-spot, while the father was brought to the nearest hospital but was later declared dead.

A policeman reportedly fired a warning shot but the bullet bounced and killed a minor who was mistaken to be a thief of scrap iron, at the old Bacolod City Airport area in Barangay Singcang Airport..

The cop involved is reportedly from Bacolod Police Station 8 based in Tangub, Bacolod.

The Bacolod Police Office’s Women’s and Children’s Protection Desk (WCP) under SPO4 Arlene Torrendon is investigating the incident.

The victim identified as Archie Mayurca sustained a gunshot wound in the head.

A man and one of his visitors were killed, while his live-in partner and other visitors were wounded when about 20 unidentified armed men fired at his house in Sitio Malabyokon in Barangay Buenavista in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, Saturday night.

Policemen identified the victims as Angel Bacani, 60, married and his still unidentified visitor.

Wounded was his live-in identified as “Alias Soping Dagat”, of legal age and resident of the place, and two other unnamed visitors.

They were rushed to Guilhungan City District Hospital for treatment.

Brothers Merjun and Romer Catedral Lopez died while their father Elmer and Orlan Oyos got hurt in a collision between their motorcycle and a Canter cargo truck late Thursday afternoon in Barangay Robles in La Castellana..

Chief Inspector Irma Teoxon, La Castellana PNP chief identified the victims Merjun, 27 and his younger brother Romer, 18, both laborers of Barangay Talaptap in La Castellana.

They sustained head and body injuries and were declared dead on arrival at La Castellana Rural Health Unit by Dr, Nenita Sol-Rodriquez.

The two top leaders of the communist movement who were nabbed in Kabankalan City Thursday were reportedly transported to a military camp in Metro Manila.

Militants from Negros revealed this yesterday, and also told the media although the two were not the ones believed by the military to be communist leaders, authorities reportedly refuse to acknowledge their real identities, they added.
