Consumer advocates have been slamming the decision by the Energy Regulatory Commission dated June 27, 2017, mandating Ceneco to collect the P232 million in unnominated contract quantity which it owes to Kepco Salcon Power Corporation.

The contract has been assailed as grossly disadvantageous to consumers and, thus, consumers should not be made to pay for “unused” power related to that contract.

Ceneco initially entered into a contract with KSPC for the supply of 40 megawatts of base load power. Then it entered into another agreement for an additional 24 MW of power, to be used either as base load or intermediate load, on the option of Ceneco.

Negros Occidental High School/Kami Mga Hubin and Bacolod Tay Tung HS won its respective titles by 3 pins in the recently-concluded 5th Inter-School Alumni Bowlfest 2017 Stepladder Finals at Negros Super Lanes.

With both teams having a twice-to-beat advantage, bracket “A” top seed NOHS/KMH defeated the surging fifth seed Bacolod City National HS Lucky Strikes, 520-517; while bracket “B” no.1 BTTHS foiled no.2 NOHS Unpredictabowls bid for a back-to-back title, 496-493.

Home squad Ceres-Negros Football Club scored a goal in injury time to win a physical game against Kaya-Makati FC, 3-2, on Saturday in the ongoing 2017 Philippines Football League held at Panaad Park and Stadium, Mansilingan in Bacolod City.

The visiting team of Kaya-Makati stunned the home fans with an early goal by Jordan Mintah in the 3rd minute. But Ceres FC striker Bienvenido Marañon equalized the scoreboard in the 10th minute with a go ahead header off a long pass from Kevin Ingreso.

The 2017 MassKara National Duckpin Bowling Tournament hosted by Kami Mga Hubin (KMH) bowling club is set to bowl off this afternoon at Negros Super Lanes, Singcang-Airport in Bacolod City.

More than 20 bowling associations and teams have confirmed its participation from around the country including Metro Manila, Iloilo, Bacolod, Negros Occidental, and Davao, to name a few.

Guaranteed prizes at steak in the Team event amount to Php170,000 and Php56,000 in the Single event both in the Men’s and Ladies divisions.

Filipino Grandmaster Rogelio Antonio, Jr. (2365) secured the top spot after Round 4 in the ongoing 2017 Negros International Open Chess Championship at the Osbron Hall in Ikthus, Bacolod City over the weekend.

GM Antonio defeated Edsel Montoya (2262) of La Carlota City in 66 moves on four Knights opening to take the solo lead with 4 points. Montoya slipped to fifth spot with 3 pts.

A couple evaded death when the firearm aimed at them failed to fire several times, in Sitio Pagulingon, Barangay Nanunga, Hinigaran town, Negros Occ. around 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police Senior Inspector Jake Barilla, Hinigaran PNP OIC police chief identified the victims as husband and wife Marilou Guay Juguan, 53 and Leonardo Narido Juguan, 55, of the said place.

Police identified the suspect as Van Delos Angeles Flores, 48, single, of Sitio Gallera, Barangay Nanunga.

A drunken laborer was overran by a Ceres bus around 10:20 p.m. Thursday at the National Highway in Sitio Campisang, Barangay Gil Montilla, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.

Police Chief Inspector Romeo Vargas, Sipalay City PNP chief identified the victim as Jericho Occeña Capanas, 51, married, of Sitio Cabugan, Barangay Gil Montilla, Sipalay City.

The victim was in the middle of the road kneeling due to drunkenness and shirtless when he was overran.

He sustained injuries in the body and was rushed to Sipalay City Infirmary Clinic for treatment.

A couple jointly hacked and injured the man’s cousin in Purok Lizares, Barangay San Miguel, Murcia town, Negros Occ. around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Senior Inspector Ryan Santillan, Murcia PNP OIC police chief identified the victim as Irene Tuazon Abuana, 27, married, also of the place.

Police identified the suspects as couple Marry Ann Sedon Tuazon, 26, and Marlo Hermohenes Tuazon, 29, both residents of the place.

A native of Bukidnon province was stabbed dead by his fellow around 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Mackay Green Energy Inc. Charcoal Facility located in Punta Coloso, Barangay 6, Kabankalan City.

Superintendent Rhea Santos, Kabankalan City OIC police chief identified the victim as Nimrod Lunda Dinsag, 47, single, of Purok 6, Barangay San Miguel, Maramag town, Bukidnon province in Mindanao.

The suspect Benjie Berdon Ebaning, 26, single, also lives in the same address.

A former Barangay Watchman or Tanod was shot dead by three suspects in Rizal-Lopez Jaena, Barangay 27, Bacolod City around 11:00 p.m. Saturday.

Police Chief Inspector Richee Gohee, Police Station 4 chief identified the victim as Jemar Villanueva, 43, of Barangay 27, Bacolod City. He sustained gunshot wound on the side of his body and was rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

“Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC) Negros Chapter joins the call of Ceneco member-consumer groups to suspend the P232M Unaccepted Contract Quantity (UCQ) to Kepco pending the MR filed by SAC be resolved by ERC,” stated Noli Espina, FDC Negros President.

The ERC June 27, 2017 decision was an authority for Ceneco to recover from its consumers the P232M UCQ, but there was no specific date except that it be collected for the span of fifty months, “but here comes CENECO GM Lagarde to specify October 25th as the onset of the collection,” Espina further explained.

Central Negros Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CENECO) informs its consumers that the residential rate for October 2017 billing is P11.0280/kwh; an increase of P1.0150/kWh from last month’s P10.0130/kwh.

The upward adjustment in CENECO’s effective rate can be attributed to the increase in the Generation Charge of P0.4728, Transmission Charge of P0.1412, and System Loss Charge of P0.0938.

A coordinator of Small Town Lottery (STL) was shot dead in a hold up attempt in Hacienda Bagacay, Barangay Bagtic, Silay City around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Superintendent Noel Polines, OIC Chief of Silay City PNP identified the victim as Jason Larido, 31, of Barangay Bagtic, Silay City. He sustained seven gunshot wounds on the chest but managed to flee on his motorcycle and ask assistance from the Barangay Hall.

He was rushed by Barangay Watchmen to Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Memorial Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival in Silay City.
