Upon his arrival in Negros yesterday, Agriculture Secretary Piñol was asked about his reaction on the statements of former Sugar Regulatory Administrator Anna Paner that the secretary was behind her exit from the agency.

Piñol disputed Paner's assertion that he did not like her from the start. However, he admitted that, last year, he initially endorsed Hermie Serafica, who was recommended by Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez to be the new SRA chief.

Busmen Mid-fielder Stephan Shröck said “It is always a different game when we play in Panaad”, referring to the home crowd support that backs the team.

DUMAGUETE CITY - Twenty four colleges and universities have already confirmed their participation in the 2017 University Games (UniGames) slated on October 22 to 28 in Dumaguete City in Negros Oriental.

Roger A. Banzuela, UniGames President said there are ten sports disciplines to be contested in different venues hosted by the province of Negros Oriental and co-hosted by the City of Dumaguete.

He said that within less than a month, he hopes other schools to confirm their participations.

An unidentified suspect shot dead a man in the hinterland barangay of San Carlos City around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Antonio Yurpo Craso, 45, married, of Sitio Katiclan, Barangay Rizal, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.

Craso was found dead by police who responded to the area after the residents reported to authorities.

Police said the victim was shot once in the head by unidentified suspect with unknown caliber of firearm.

Police is conducting investigation of the incident to determine the motive and identify the suspect.

A man was found dead on the floor of their house at Purok 2, Barangay Gargato, Hinigaran town, Negros Occ. around 11:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Senior Inspector Jake Barilla, Hinigaran PNP OIC chief identified the victim as Johnsie Lucasan Piojo, 21, single.

Police said the victim was believed to have committed suicide as a rope was found tied on his neck attached to their house’ wood truss.

But the rope split apart that may have caused the victim to fall to the cemented floor.

The body of a minor lying on a cemented floor in an abandoned house was found around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday. The house situated in Hacienda Señora, Barangay Salvacion, Murcia town is owned by his uncle identified as Jayme Benitin Escalona.

Senior Inspector Ronald Santillan, Murcia PNP chief identified the victim as Kenneth Benitin Aringa, 17, of Hacienda San Roque, Barangay Salvacion, Murcia.

The victim was brought to a funeral parlor for post-mortem examination.

Police is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.*

The rising voices of Bacolodnons shouting for an end to the series of street crimes and to improve the traffic situation in the capital city of Negros Occidental, have reached the Office of the Governor.

“Act on peace and order,” said Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. to remind city officials and local police officials.

“We should try to maintain the peace and order of Negros Occidental. But with the recent spate of (robbery and) hold-up incidents in Bacolod, the local government is reminded of it function,” the Governor said.

The appointment of Herminigildo Serafica as the new head of the Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) is an assurance that the agency will not be abolished, said Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol yesterday.

Piñol, who is in Negros Occidental for a two-day visit, said President Rodrigo Duterte “only floated the idea.”

Piñol is meeting sugar workers this morning at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall and with sugar industry stakeholders in neighboring Talisay City in the afternoon.
